Show See!is Election To Davis School Board LUCILE C. READING Lucile C. Reading, a long time resident of Davis County, Coun-ty, is a candidate for the Davis County School Board, precinct 3. SHE HAS had considerable experience in civic, church, and education. Mrs. Reading has written a language study course and co-authored a reading course for minority groups. SHE HAS also done graduate grad-uate work in child development develop-ment and children's literature. lit-erature. These experiences have fostered her belief that there is an urgent need for greater emphasis on basic , subjects. A recent Gallop poll indicated in-dicated that parents feel discipline in the schools is the number one problem. Mrs. Reading knows that consistent discipline is of paramount importance. SHE BELIEVES that a thorough and objective evaluation of curriculum and discipline is vital, and that this should include appropriate ap-propriate input from administrators, ad-ministrators, teachers, and parents. . Knowledgeable in business and financing, Mrs. Reading has been owner and operator of a business for many years, a member of three hospital boards (Primary Children's South Davis Community, and Lakeview), as social service secretary of the Utah Division of the American Cancer Society, and as the managing editor of the "Friend." MRS. READING is qualified qualifi-ed to evaluate new and continuing con-tinuing programs, to reappraise reap-praise all present and planned plan-ned facilities, and to stimulate a more aggressive attitude toward open communication com-munication between taxpayers, tax-payers, teachers, and any interested in-terested groups in solving our educational problems. As a member of the General Gen-eral Primary Association presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for eight years, Mrs. Reading was instrumental in preparing Sunday School and Primary lessons for children. She has been a writer, editor, edi-tor, and editorial board member of children's magazines mag-azines for the past 18 years. |
