Show UNIVERSITY NOTES The University of Utah appears to be going "classical" this week with Beethoven's Fiftth Symphony Sym-phony as a theme song; it also appears to have taken on a scientific scien-tific flavor, with the three-dots and-adash symbol of the Morse code heard on every side. But the simple truth is that this is Homecoming week at. the "U' and the theme for tha celebration ic "V" for Victory." Designed for the glorification of the American Ideal, skits, quartets, quar-tets, and loats at Saturday's Homecoming parade will all carry car-ry out the V for Vistory theme. The University will welcome "alums ' back to the campus with a novel combination of school spirit and patriotism. Events of the week officially begin on Thursday evening, October Oct-ober 30, when the decorations of sorority and fraternity houses will be judged. Campus organizations sponsoring prizewinning quartets and skits will be represented at the finals at 8 p. m. in Kingsbury Hall, where the events will be presented in honor of the "old grads." An alumni rally will be held on Friday evening at 8. Former students stu-dents will neet old classmate in the Union Building before visiting visi-ting open house held by campus social organizations. Refreshment and dancing at these parties will be followed by the traditional street dance. The big football parade will be held downtown in Salt Lake at 10 Saturday morning. Most campus cam-pus social and activities organizations organ-izations plan to enter floats with the V for Victory theme. Following the Colorado-Utah football game, the annual Homecoming Home-coming Dance will be held in the University Union on Saturday night. Prizes for skits, floats, quartets and house decorations will be presented by the Homecoming Home-coming Queen and her atteoclcnts RECEIPT FOR SAFY Policemen give '"'okots" for parking cars all night on main thoroughfare. What to do. then, when your car breaks down on a state highway, late at night? One University of Utah coed solved solv-ed the problem Inst week with this note, left under the windshield wind-shield wiper of her little old cat: Dear Mr. Policeman: Yes I am a very bad car for breaking down on the street, but mysides are all tired out and I just cVuldn't help it. Besides, I belong some very old feeble ladies that don't know how to cure me. Please don t weigh me down with a ticket. In the morning the coed's note was gone, but the car was there, and tinder the windshild wiper was a brief reply: "O. K. lady, I believe You." POLITICAL SCIENCE A new wrinkle in the study of political science appears this year on the face of the University of Utah class schedule. All students enrolled in classes studying public adminstartion will work a minimum mini-mum of three hours a week in the office of federal, state, county or city department. Students will be required to do enough work to make them renlly useful m the office they are assigned to. nnd will get an inside view of the workings of public offices. |
