The Mapleton Maple-ton Trails Committee has been working with Mapleton City on gaining access for a trail along the CUWCD canal that runs from Spanish Fork Canyon to Hobble Creek. On Wednesday, Mar. 26, from 7 to 80 p.m, the Mapleton Maple-ton Trails Committee will host a public information night at the Mapleton City building. The purpose of the meeting with the various government agencies was to coordinate efforts to gain an easement for an asphalt and dirt trail along the canal. The canal is currently being piped and will be finished by June. The construction of the canal is in two phases. The first is for gravity feed piping and the second phase will be a pressurized pres-surized system that will occur oc-cur in the next three to five years. The CUWCD was authorized autho-rized in 1956 (Public Law 84-485) 84-485) as a participating project for the Colorado River Storage Stor-age Project (CRSP) to develop devel-op and distribute a portion of Utah's share of Colorado River water for use in the Uinta Basin and the Greater Basin of Utah. The water for the Utah Lake Drainage Basin Water Delivery System Sys-tem (ULS) will be provided by a trans-basin diversion of 101,900 acre-feet of water from Strawberry Reservoir and by exchange of District water rights in Utah Lake. Some of the purposes of this canal is to protect water quality of surface and underground under-ground water resources that may be affected by BonrieV; ille Unit completion; water conservation, and reuse of water resources, assist with recovery efforts in the June Sucker Fish Recover Implementation Imple-mentation Program, assist in improving fish, wildlife and related recreational resources resourc-es and comply with statutorily statutori-ly mandated instream flows.
