Show ygME39 NUMBER 15 ROOSEVELT, DUCHESNE COUNTY, UTAH, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1951 $3.00 PER YEAR . 7c PER COPY Dam Caretaker - Leaves Post As Earth Tremors Mr. and Mrs. Don Kolb made a lot of fast tracks on Tuesday, October 30 when about 8:20 that morning they wera shaken by n earth tremor in the cabin near the isolated Moon Lake Dam, 50 miles northwest of Roosevelt" in the Uintas, where they were stationed as caretakers of the dam. The Kolbs climbed aboard snow shoes and hiked out of the place as quickly as possible after the tremors were felt. Mr. Kolb termed it a violent shock, and surmised it may have been an earthquake, or an after effect of the atomic tests in southern Nevada. Ne-vada. He said it lasted for one minute, min-ute, increasing in intensity, and then suddenly stopped. Horses near the cabin bolted as they felt the jar. The dam is located at an 8100-foot elevation, and is about 20 miles from any othet inhabitants. |
