Show Q- x FORMER RESIPENT DIES IN CALIFORNIA Charles H. Roberts, 84, native of this city and for many years a leading) citizen of this city and also al-so of Bingham, died at his home in Log Angeles last Friday morn-inf morn-inf after an illness of several weeks. He 'buried in Los Angeles Monday Mon-day following services there. Mr. Roberts was a son of Ruben and Catherine Roberts of this city. He married Miss Mary Elizabeth Shelley, a daughter of James and Mary Shelley of American Fork on May 17, 1873, and their union was blessed with ten children, two of -nCm Sre - living. Mrs. Roberts died March 10, 1910, and he later married Miss Clara Tregoning. While a resident here he served at one time as city marshal and also entered into business, being a partner with his brother John in I operating a drug store here in the; early days. The family moved to! Bingham and resided there for! many years. Mr. Roberts engaged in the hotel 1 and real estate business in Bing-! ham until 1916,- when he moved to Los Angeles He was one of the incorporators of the town of Stngham arid served as postmaster durix,3 the administration adminis-tration of Presidents Mc'Kinley, Roosevelt and Taft. j Prior to his postmastership he I served a term as a member of the' Salt Lake county conimission. He is survived by his widow, a.,'. son, Oliver, of Kirkham, ac'Mss the'i Jordan River, and a daughter, Mrs. I: Ethel Stybel of Los Angeles, alsol thirteen grandchildren and twd great-grandchildren. 1 1 |
