Show Funeral Rites for Former Resident Held in Salt Lake Funeral services for J. Clarence Clark, former resident of Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove, were held Thursday, March 17 in the East Ensign ward of Salt Lake City, with Bishop N. A. Smith conducting. Speakers included Junius A. West of Pleasant Grove, and H. Winfield Clark and Professor Wil-ford Wil-ford Poulson of Provo. Interment was in the Salt Lake City cemetery. ceme-tery. Mr. Clark was born in Pleasant Grove November 17, 1884, eldest son of Joseph Brigham and Louisa Pearson Clark, early pioneers. His grandfather, George Sheffer Clark was a member of the Mormon Bat-tallion Bat-tallion and entered the valley with Brigham Young in 1847, later becoming be-coming the first Bishop of Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove. Mr. Clark received his early education ed-ucation in Pleasant Grove, graduating gradu-ating from the district school 8th grade in 1902 and entered the University Uni-versity of Utah that fall, remaining remain-ing until 1907 studying engineering. engineer-ing. From 1907 to 1911 he worked work-ed as a mining surveyor in Alta Utah and also as a chemist for Utah-Idaho Sugar Co. at Sugar City, Ida. From 1911 to 1947 he was employed em-ployed by the Bureau of Land Management, formerly General Land Office, as Cadastral Engineer. Engin-eer. He retired June 30, 1947. In April 1948 he was given a Special Citation for Commendable Service and an Honor Award, with Certificate Certi-ficate of Honor from the Department Depart-ment of the Interior. He filled a stake mission in Ensign En-sign Stake from 1941 to 1945. He was an active member of the High Priests Quroum, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and a faithful ward teacher until his last illness. He is survived by his widow, Ruby Christensen Clark, one son, Joseph Clarence Clark Jr., and the following brothers and sisters: George L. Clark and Warren R. Clark of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Jessie Jes-sie Green of Draper and Mrs. Sidney Sid-ney W. (Grace) Nicholes of American Amer-ican Fork. |
