Show Funeral Held Wednesday For Mrs- Vance Relatives and friends assemoled Wednesday, March 23 to pay last tribute of respect to the memoiy of Mathilda M. Vance, 92, who died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ertmann Cluisten-sen. Cluisten-sen. With David Blackhurst of the Fifth Ward bishopric conducting, the impressive service began at 1 p.m. - Invocation was offered by Franklin Stratton, a grandson. A ladies double trio, Valeen Hubbard, Hub-bard, Nina Clegg, Joycelyn Thayne, Maxine Stringf ellow, Bonnie Christensen and Corine Partridge. all granddaughters, sang "That Wonderful Mother of Mine." They were accompanied by John Herbst. A biographical sketch of the long and busy life of Mrs. Vance was read by Stanley Elliot. John Herbst played an organ solo. Speakers who paid tribute to the life and works of Mrs. Vance and uttered words of faith and encouragement, en-couragement, coupled with the gospel message of eternal life, were Vance Calder and stake president Edward W. Burgess of Alpine .Stake, a cousin. They were interspersed by a vocal solo, "Mother McCree" by Joycelyn Thayne accompanied by Mr. Herbst. Closing remarks of tiibute and appreciation of Mrs. Vance and her family were made by Mr. Blackhurst after the final musical number by David Christensen, a violin solo "O My Father," Benediction Bene-diction was pronounced by Alma Vance, a grandson. Prelude and postlude music was played by Laurel Thome. Prior to the church services prayer in the home was offered by David Blackhurst. Interment, directed dir-ected by Olpin Mortuary, was in the Provo City Burial Park, where John A. Vance,, a son, offered the dedicatorial prayer. Pallbearers, all grandsons, were Robert Calder, Niel Gardner, Vem Stratton, David Calder, David Christensen, and David Stratton. Flowers were cared for and arranged ar-ranged by the Fifth Ward ReUef Society. Mrs. Vance was born at Lehi Sept. 3, 1862, a daughter of Jessie B. Martin and Sophronia Moore. She wa3 married to John Alma Vance June 2, 1881, at the Old Endowment House at Salt Lake City. She was the mother of 11 children. v Mrs. Vance moved to Pleasant Grove 13 years ago to reside with her daughter. She was a member of the LDS church, and has been an ardent worker as a Primary teacher and in the Relief Society organization, having served as a counselor and a visiting teacher. Survivors include Mrs. Raymond Ray-mond (Matilda) Elliot, Mrs. James G. (Nina) Stratton, and Mrs. E. H. (Melba) Calder, all of Orem; Mrs. Angie V. Rawlins of Draper; Mrs. Earl (Zola) Malone of Long Beach; Mrs. E. S. (Dora) Bor-quist Bor-quist of Tucson, Ariz.; and Mrs. Ertmann Christensen of Pleasant Grove. Survivors also include 43 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren, and two great-greatgrandchildren. |
