Show REDUCE DEATH LISUO TEN Official Inquiry Into Battle of Miners and Detectives Is Made MATEWAN, W. Va., May 22. An official checking late today disclosed that 10 persons, not 12 as previously reported, were killed in the battle hero Wednesday .between Baldwin-Felts Baldwin-Felts detectives and miners. They wero Hated as wounded ln tho fight-In0- The state constabulary a,nd doputy sheriffs still jDatrolled tho streets today to-day but there was no disorder. Orders prohibiting crowds from congregating in the streets were Issued. Searchers dragged tho rivor for tho bodies of two other detectives who, according to witnesses, were shot and killed while trying to swim to a place of safety. The authorities expressed the opinion,, however, that no officers wero killed in this manner. I The sheriff's deputies reported that 'they had been jinablo to find who fired tho first shot. Two of tho victims of Wednesday's battle wero buried hero today. Forty state troops supervised tho funeral services. Tho bodies Interred were those of Robert Mullens, miner, and "Tot" Tinsley, son of a miner., Soveral hundred townfolk, led by troopers, followed the funeral procession proces-sion to the cemetery and after tho burial the people returned quietly to their home oo |
