Show FORMER MAYOR OF BUFFALO IS MAD Buffalo. N. Y., Fob. 9. James Noble Adam, former Democratic mayor of Buffalo, and fouudoi of the dry goods house of J. N. Adam & Co. died here al 3 o'clock this morning, after a brief illness. Mr. Adam was seized with a faint, lng spell yesterday aftornon while visiting vis-iting the office of Mayor Fuhrmann, his successor. Ho apparently wao suffering from an attack of acute indigestion, in-digestion, but was ablo to walk to his automobile, and was taken home. Up to midnight his condition was not regarded re-garded as serious, but early this morn-ing morn-ing another attack, apparently of apoplexy, apo-plexy, caused his death. He was 70 years old He retired from business life In 1907 and had devoted most of his time ever since to public affairs His term as mayor expired last year. Mr. Adam returned recently from Peebles. Scotland, his birthplace, where it was his custom to make an annual Islt Ho came t America In 1872 after serving his apprenticeshin In commercial life fn Scotland, and, was a resident qf New Haven, Conn., until 1881, when he camo to Hulfalo. For a score of years he hn boon a conservative Democrat of national prominence. |
