during the May 3rd DHS elections Next year's TriDels and cheerleaders were officially introduced at the TriDel Review held Thursday May 3 They performed a number of dances and were introduced individually in formats for the candlelight ing ceremony The audience was also treated to musical guest performances by Curtis Simmons Sarah Hyde and a duet by Tiffany Talbot and Jenny Nielson Journalism Students Excel Liz Peterson and Darlene Western shined for Delta in a recent journalism competition at BYU Liz competed and placed in two different categories Darlene placed in one category This was a state wide competition for journalism students Lit competed in a contest held by the Utah Journalism Education Association at BYU She competed against students from different schools They all interviewed Linda Siilitoe (she wrote the Salamander which was by Alan Roberts) The students then went into the computer lab at B YU They used their story into a computer They had one hour to complete the story Liz placed second in this competition Liz said "It w as an excellent opportunity to gain 'on hand experience in the real world of journalism" Darlene competed in the Utah Press Association contest The category was feature articles She chose an article she had written about Sheri Bean for the competition Her article won first place Liz also competed in the photography category She placed second in the state with a silhouette photo of Zane Baker skateboarding The Utah Press Association invited the two students to the Salt Lake Community College this week They will be honored at a luncheon where awards will be presented for their accomplishments They will also be taken to a workshop where print and photojournalism will be discussed Both students are active in unfortunately they were not judged because they made the cream puffs before the competition actually began Both Emily Dent and Emily Draper competed in the toy contest Emily Dent received a second place ribbon and rs In the Board Mechanical Drafting contest Terry Jensen placed second Mr Wamick Vocational Teacher said “I was very pleased with how well the kids had done They really did an outstanding job” In the Cabinctmaking contest the student was required to display an item that he had made in class Blue red and white ribbons were awarded and from the blue ribbons five superiors last week to get done but it was worth it" Ryan Mork Vocational Sterling Scholar received a first place (blue) ribbon for his chest of drawers Other students that received a blue ribbon were Kirk received a third place ribbon The group attended a few workshops including creating with candy and creating with time Alisse Bringhurst said “My favorite workshop was when they showed us how to make suckers They even showed us how to put gum in the middle of them Best of all we got to cat them when the workshop was over" The last workshop was a fashion show Several groups modeled the outfits they
