Show MILLARD COUNTY CHRONICLE Wf DeltcUtah. Thurs., Dec. 8,1949 Hinckley Mrs. Harriet Spendlove Mr. and Mrs. Alma Western were visited over the week end by their son, Rulon and his family from Provo. Visitors in Provo over the week were Mr. and Mrs. Karl Workman and family. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Spendlove were guests at the home of his mother, Mrs. Emma Spendlove Sun day. Mr. Leonard Palmer was a Salt Lake City visitor Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. George Ekins were shoppers in Provo Monday of this week. Last week Mrs. Wayne Petersen and Mrs. Lowell Petersen shopped in Salt Lake City. A baby boy was born to Mrs. Charles Silvers at their home on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Tuesday evening at the Hinck-ley MIA was drama night, with one one-a- play being presented under, the direction of Mr. D. A. Allred and one under the direct-ion of Mrs. Eugene Morris, with other numbers being presented be-tween the two plays. "Exemption" directed by Mr. All red, was a comeday in which the two main characters were a Swed-ish couple in America who did not understand the meaning of the term "Exemption" in paying their income taxes .These wo char acters were delightfully portrayed by Dolpha Bishop and Melvin Hep-wort-with the tax collector being taken by Blaine Wilson. They gave their audience many a good laugh. Chracters in the "Man In The Bowler Hat", directed by Mrs. Mor-ris were: John, Lafe Nielson; Mary, Nina Mecham; Hero, Doug Allred; Heroine, Anna Talbot; Chief villian IVerdell Bishop;; Bad Mafl, Frank Hebert; and the Man in the Bow-ler Hat, Byron Carter. This mystery comedy kept the audience on edge throughout the performance as they unravelled the plot and pur-pose of the play. The numbers presented between me piays included a vocal solo by Dorothy Morris; two which readings were given by Naomi Terry and Delores Silvers; a dance num-ber under the direction of Dana Bishop and Elden Hurst, which was a comedy goon dance done by Irene Lewis and Geraldine Black; and an instrumental duet given by Ila Rae and Sherline Tal-bot, accompanied by their mother, Mrs. Cluff Talbot. Community singing by the group under the direction of Forest Mes-erv- y was enjoyed at the beginn-ing and the close of the program. Mr. and Mrs. John Hesselguesser and family moved to Delta this week to make their home for the winter. They have been living at Eureka, Nev., and are now visit-ing Mrs. Hesselguesser's mother, Mrs. Frances Tolbert. Lyric Lore CSsib Meets at Dinner Mrs. Marjorie Gardner was host-ess at dinner to members of the Lyric Lore Club at their meeting of Dec. 1. Those present were Le-o- Jeffery, Maurine Jeffery, Elea-nor Skidmore, Reva Skidmore, Thelma Black, Verna Gardner, Alice Gardner, Olive Barney, Carol Schlappi, Pearl Snow, Rayda Raw-linso- n, Lucille Hortin and Harriet Eliason. Mrs. Snow gave the pro-gram, which was a book review of "Word of Wisdom," by Widstoe. The play, a farce comedy in 3 - ,ctSi was written by Guernsey Le - Miey. The cast put in many long hours at practice but the results roved worth the while. ' Both audiences at the night per- - formances, as well as the matinee, proved to be appreciative of the 5ne portrayals taken by the diff-erent characters. CoiapSc Wedded In Temple Kites An impressive ceremony solem-nized Dec. 1 in the Salt Lake Tem-ple united in marriage Miss Shir-ley Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Smith of Smithfield, and Darold Whatcott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Whatcoot of Lynndyl. President Robert D. Young per-formed the rites. The marriage was atended by the parents of both the bride and the groom, also Mr. and Mrs. Garth Whatcott, Mr. and Mrs. Carl What cott, Mr. and Mrs. Newel Howlett, Mrs. Anthony Stephenson and Mrs. Amy Erickson. Following the nuptials the new-lywe-were honored at a wedding breakfast at the Doll House.. Friday evening a reception was held at the Smith home. The bride was very lovely in a gown of gleaming white satin with lace yoke insert and full skirt. Her fin-gertip veil of bride's illusion fell from a beaded tiara of lace and seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of pink rosebuds. Miss Maurine Smith was maid of honor and the Bride's maids were Kay Dawn and Colleen, sisters of the bride. Garth Whatcott assumed best man duties for his brother. The new Mr. and Mrs. Darold Whatcott are making their home in Salt Lake City. - Leamington Mrs. Pearl Nelson Mr. and Mrs. Ed Vest of May-fiel-d and daughter, spent last the weekend visiting with Mr. and Mrs ' Rulon Dutson and family. Grant Nielson and Merrill Dut-son left Sunday for Ephraim to attend Snow college this quarter. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Ovcrson have moved into the Grant Niel-son home. We are happy to wel-come thorn to our community. Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Nielson vis-ited in Leamington over the week end. Mrs. Kenneth Nielson and child-ren spent the weekend in Salt Lake City visiting and shopping. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Bradfield and family spent last weekend vis-iting her sister in Cannonville. While there they drove on to Bryce Canyon and saw many places of interest. Mrs. Alta Lovell is still sick and in bed. Her sister, Faun Hill, has been staying with her and taking care of the family. We hope she soon is able to be up and around again. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Nielson return ed last week from a ttrip back east. They bought them a new Buick and had a very good time. Mr. and Mrs. Hilton Poters of Las Vegas announce the engage-ment of their daughter, Leila, to Mr. Arnold Hall of Las Vegas. Miss Peters is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dell Bradfield. Mr. and Mrs. Burton Hansen spent a few days in Salt Lake City shopping, and in Orem visiting Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lewis last week. Friday, Dec. 9 at 2:30 p.m. Mr. Sherwood, the state highway pa-trolman, will be at the school-hous- e to show films and give a program on safety. Everyone is urged to come as it will be inter-esting and well worth your time. On Dec. 16, the following Friday, the PTA will hold their regular meeting. Mr. A. M. Maughan will be here to talk and answer any Questions we may have. After the meeting we will have another sqare dance ,so everyone keep the dates in mind and plan to be there. A Primay officers and teachers preparation meeting was held on Monday night at the home of Klee Finlinson, with Freda Hansen as assisting hostess. All officers and teachers were present and refresh-ments were served. The teachers wish to thank all parents who came out and parti-cipated in American Education week and wish a few more had come. They invite all parents to come and see what their children are doing anytime. Mr. and Mrs. Carson Crandall and Mr. and Mrs. Orson Prestwich spent last weekend visiting Mr. and Mr. John Anderson and Essie Anderson. Fine Arts Club Is Entertained Mrs. Clare Stephenson and Mrs. Leona Prestwich were hostesses to the Fine Arts Club Monday night, Nov. 28, at the Stephenson home. A Christ-mas program will be given at that meeting, which is the only one in December. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Skinner made a two-da- y trip to Salt Lake City early this week. Mrs. Waiora Wallace, who has been in Salt Lake City visiting her daughters, spent Sunday in Delta and returned again to the city. Joseph D. Mercer was a Salt Lake visitor on business Tuesday. Saturday Bridge Is Entertained Mrs. Margaret Adams was hos- tess to the Saturday Bridge club at her home on Saturday evening. Dinner at 8 was served to 12 guests followed by an evening at bridge. Those present from the club, were LaVonne Morrison, Etta Underhill, Mae Holman, Vivian Holman, Cole, Luella Nickle, Wanda Beckwith, Ruby Vodak, and Lois Hinckley. Guests were Roberta Theobald and Phyllis Peterson. Last week end Melvin Dutson, Frank Griglow of Leamington and Gene Overson of Lynndyl visited in Provo with Harold Ivie and Raymond Clark and then went to Salt Lake to visit Mr. and Mrs. Russell Dutson. Mrs. Marie James has had her mother, Mrs. Blaine Cox and young brother visiting her from Beaver. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Simpson and Mr. and Mrs. Grayson Roper went to Oak City for a birthday dinner honoring their grandmother, Mrs. Annie Roper on her 88 birthday. Mrs. Roper will soon be staying at the home of her daughter, Mrs, Martin Sheriff in Provo. Mrs. Rachel Simpson and Jay returned to Lynndyl Wednesday. Mrs. Simpson returned Thursday to Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Rosenbaum were guests in Provo of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Larson. Thursday evening after attend-ing the Eagle Lodge meeting held in Provo, Mrs. Thelma Clark, Mrs. Kay Atkins, Mrs. Effie Allen, Mrs. Marie James, and Mrs. Beryl Crumb went to Orem and had chilli and crackers at the Norma Majers re-sidence. Grandpa and Grandma Ivie who have been living with their daugh-ter, Mrs. Elvada Johnson in Prvov. Grayson Roper went to TOD Park and visit with Mr. and Mrs. Don Williams. Mr. C. E. Simpson has his bro-ther, Ray, who has been in the payson hospital, come to live with aim. Wednesday evening, Mrs. Beryl Crumb, Norma Majers, Janeane and Don Williams, Francis and Jay Sim pson spent a pleasant evening playing cards at the Simpson home Mrs. Thelma Clark is spending this week in Springville demonstrat ing her products. Friday evening all the Millardites were out to witness the Christmas parade in Provo sponsored by the Junior high school and elementry schools. It was led by Santa and his reindeer and many ber.utiful floats and bands from the various schools. Candy was given to tho children by Santa Claus. Mrs. Saul Angel has been quite ill but is able to be out again. Her "Aunt Beck" Perkins is feel ig fine and enjoys this fine wea-'he- r. Mrs. Nada Simpson, Mn Ed. 3twart and their mother, Mrs. d Roper went to Eureka to keep i date with Dr. Oburn. Harlin Nielson was in Provo !ast week looking for work, Mrs. Nielson and the children visited with her mother, Mrs. KU't Roper. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Campbell of Provo spent two days in Salt Lake visiting friends and relatives. Mrs. William Sterling of Salt Lake and Mr. and Mrs. Irving Cam pbell of Provo enjoyed dinner at the Tom Campbell home in Provo. Mr. Wallace Allen is back to Provo working and enjoying life once more. The Aliens still have Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Jack of Ely, Nev., as their guests. Mr. and Mrs. J. Avery Bishop and Mr. and Mrs. Layton Bishop spent Sunday visiting in Cedar City and St. George. Mr. and Mrs. Oak Dutson and family spent the weekend visiting in southern Utah. They took their daughter, Beverly, to St. George where she will attend Dixie col-lege and then returned through Zion and Bryce Canyons. They found the canyons particularly beautiful at this time of the year. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Woodbury of Hinckley were happy to have as weekend guests their granddaugh-ter and husband and little daugh-ter, Staff Sergeant and Mrs. Dar-re- ll D. Sucher and Ginger. They were on furlough from Sgt. Such-er'- s base in Oklahoma and on their way to visit in Idaho. As Sunday was their fifth wedding anniver-sary, a family dinner party was held at the Woodbury home and a pleasant evening spent together. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Max Hannifin last week were Mrs. Hannifin's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Fereday, and her brother Dean Fereday, and family, all of Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald King, and small daughters, Christine and Karen, from Ogden spent the holi-days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Webb. |
