Show Iron and Steel Ball Production. The final figures of pig iron and steel rail production for 891 have now been made public by the American Iron and Steel association. Pig iron production fell off from 9,802,703 gross tons in 1890 to 8,279,87a in 1891, a loss of 928,833 tons. Steel rail3 fell from 2,013,188 net tons in 1890 to 1,366,239 in 1891, a loss of 646,929 net tons. How do these figures read in the eight of the rosy promises made by the Mc-Kinleyites Mc-Kinleyites as to the general prosperity which the McKinley law would bring to the country? If it had brought any increase in-crease of prosperity the iron trade would have been the very first to feel it, but as the iron industry shows such a decline de-cline in production the only conclusion is that McKinleyism has failed to benefit bene-fit the country. Has it not done even Worse? |
