Show MANTI. The county court convenes on Monday. Mon-day. Bishop A. C. Madsen of Gunnison was a visitor at the seminary this week. R.J. Dugdale, representing the Provo Enquirer called Tuesday. ' Miss Hanson of Kphraim is visiting with her friend, Zettie Jesseu, this week. Mr. Kimball of Clark Kldridge & Co., Salt Lake, was seen on our streeis yesterday, yes-terday, G. E. Bench's many friends will re gret to learn of his serious illness with lagrippe. The leading topic en the atreets the latter part of the week was the vetoed "sheep bill." The Relief society and Young Ladies' conference convenes at Ephraim today at 10 o'clock. The Vernal (Utah) Express is received. It is a three column ynorto, and is on the exchange list. Walter Stringham, Jr., left for Salt Lake on Tuesday morning and will return re-turn tomorrow evening. A number of the base ball boys were out in their costumes on Monday, and getting ready for the fray. The fifth annual report of the com. missioner of labor has been received through the kindness of the Hon. John T. Cain. Gustave Iverson of Ephraim has recently been called on mission to Scandinavia, Scan-dinavia, for which place he will leave some time in May. Charles Riddle is making a great record as a foot racer. Nobody in the town, as yet, has been found who can keep pace with him. The snow in the mountains is rapidly disappearing and if this weather lasts much longer it is feared the water supply sup-ply will fall short this summer. County Assessor Peterson of Ephraim has been going his annual rounds in JIanti this week. He made this office, a very pleasant call on Wednesday. The girls of Manti are becoming much interested in base ball, and ere long will be issuing a challenge to the fair sex of our neighboring towns. A new mining company has besn organized, to be known as the Galena Gnleh Mining company, with W. If. Reid as president, John Rtdd secretary, and Dr. W. J. Stacey as treasurer. The company has contracted the sinking of a Bhaft to Mr. John Eowls, and the outlook out-look is very promising, John Reid, the connty clerk, i.-sm-d marriage license to tho following couples: Nephi D. Bisehoff and Annie S. Olsen of Fountain Green, Peter Jensen Jen-sen and Mary Ann Christensen of Eph-raiin,. Eph-raiin,. Dr. Kenner give3 information to the i effect that all the work previously done ! on the Alexander mine will amount to nothing as a new shaft will have to be made before the mine can fee successfully success-fully worked. In order that this may be done a force of proficient miners will soon be pnt to work, and the outlook is very encouraging indeed. Mr. and Mrs. Larson of Ephraim were in Manti on Sunday last. They spent the day at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Ludvigsnn. The occasion was the celebration of the birthday of Mr. and Mrs. Larson and Mrs. Lndvigson. Their only regret is that the fith of March don't come twice instead of once a year. This paper wishes the trio many happy returns. The Great War Exhibition company of Hartford, Conn., will show at Grier's hall to-night. It consists of 200 square feet of canvas in each scene, a stereop-tican stereop-tican history of the war between states in 1861-5, including the movements of the armies, camp fires battles, naval engagements photographed by Brady & Gardner. It is of especial value to children. A descriptive lecture is given with each scene. |
