Show Say of Other Editors I One Six-Year Term for President. Business Men's Magazine: "Three cheers for the Chicago business men's league! It has, through Senator Cullom, brought before the senate a resolution in favor of an amendment, to the constitution of the United States mak-' Ing the president's term of office six years, and maklnir him ineligible for re-election. This is Just what ought to be done, to insure stability of business interests and singleness of purpose In the chief executive. Tho president of the United States Is only a man, after all, and Is just as keen for re-election as the school board, and he should have removed from him absolutely abso-lutely the temptation to buy political assistance assist-ance through patronage; but the other reason, the business reason, Is much moro Important. Elections disturb our trado'every four years to Its great detriment, especially since, with the present arrangement, our attention Is focused so much on personalities, rather than principles. princi-ples. Under the proposed plan, the personality of the president would not be as important to us as It is now, but the principles for which he stands would be mora so. In other words, we would not he struggling in our elections, to reelect re-elect a man. Wo would be fighting to retain a principle. High Prices for Hood River Apples. (Wllford Hansen, Logan 1" years of ago.) There's a great Stono Face shining brightly, -High up on the mountain's top, And it seoms to say steadily press onward, And never, no never to stop. Every time when 1 feel discontented, Or my temper Is not Ju3t right, I look and behold on tho mountain A face shining clear and bright. Year upon year have I watched It, But its features they never change, And the more that I gaze upon It, Tho further Its features range. I'll let this beautiful Stono Face, Be ray ono faithful guide through life, In sadness or trouble I'll view It, And end all ray sadness and strife. And this face Is colng to dotcrmlne, What I'm going to be In life, Whether I'm going to look at tho dark side, Or push upward through toll and strife. With this great Stono Faco before me, And Its countenance smiling so sweet, I'll toll onward and upward with feeling, Until it will stand at ray feet. And then there'll bo a great mountain, Much higher than tho one 1 have climbed, And another Stone Face ever shining, With Its fase and Its features sublime. |
