On-Thursday)VeveniBg, May 3, the members of the P. P. P. club gave a pleasant surprise party to Charlie Downey at the residence of his parents, 731 South Montana street. It was a delightful occasion, participated in bv as jolly a crowd as ever gathered to do honor to one of the brightest young members of the club. The evening was most agreeably spent with singing, music, games and other social enjoyments, ending with refreshments, consisting of all the delicacies del-icacies of the season. The party broke up at an early hour, w-hen good.-bves and good wishes were exchanged everyone left smiling and haory, carrying car-rying away with them a delightful re-, membrance of one of the most pleasant social functions ever given under the auspices of the P. Lott, Joyce, Weicks. P. S. Harrington, who has been under medical treatment in Salt Lake for the past month, returned last Sunday. His numerous friends in Butte will be pleased to hear that he is entirely restored re-stored to his usuaf good health. Superintendent Michael O'Farrell of the Bell and High Ore mines sustained some slight injuries last week by being thrown from his buggy. Tuesday, May S, Arbor day, was observed ob-served here as a holiday. All the banks, county and city otliees and yublic library li-brary were closed for the day. AV. E. Deeney left last week for the? east on an important mission in connection connec-tion with Irish national affairs. On Arbor day "The Man with the Hoe" made his appearance, in Butte. " " v. F. A. Heinie has returned from the cast. , The Daughters of Erin, division No. 2. A. O. H., gave a social dance and card party on Friday evening. May 4, at Hibernia hall, Centerville. Rev. Father Richard Gearty of Sligo and Rev. Father T. H. Cummins, Roscommon, Ros-common, Ireland, arrived in Butte on Tuesday and will remain for a week or tw-o. Both gontlemn are well kiiown for their oratorical abilities, and besides be-sides they have taken a very active and prominent part in Irish national affairs for many years. - The1 Daughters of Erin, divisions No. 1 and 2, held a special meeting at Hibernia Hi-bernia hall, Centerville, on Wednes-dav. Wednes-dav. On Sunday evening, Rev. Father Mallo, the venerable) missionary priest, delivered a most Interesting address at St. Patrick's, in which he gave a graphic account of his missionary work among the various Indian tribes with whom he tm '" ' forty years. At the conclusion of his address a collection was taken up and a large amount was contributed by the congregation for ths education and benefit of the Indians. Zoel Boulet. lately employed at Dug-gan's Dug-gan's undertaking parlors, left on , Thursday to seek his fortune in Cape Nome. Brother Paul Carney and Brother Dominick Gavin, members of Jhe Franciscan order at Mount Bellew, County Galway. arrived in Butte on last Saturday. The object of their visit is to collect funds for the erection of schools and the enlargement of the Franciscan Monastery chapel at Mount Bellew, County Galway, Ireland. They have been traveling very extensively throughout the United States and are well pleased with generous contributions contribu-tions they have received. Miss Lizzie Keating, a niece of Miss-Annie Miss-Annie Cantwell. has been laid up at Sisters' hospital with pneumonia for the past week. The Catholic fair and bazar, which was announced to take place this month, has been postponed until September Sep-tember or October The usual services in connection with the devotion to the Sacred Heart were held at St. Patrick's on Friday. The attendance was large and there were over 2,000 communicants. Rev. Father De Siere. who has been traveling in Europe for the past six months, is expected back by the end of the month. M.
