The entertainment enter-tainment given by St. Joseph's Parish school on the closing of that institution institu-tion last week, was a great success and reflected great credit on the Sisters and pupils. & Miss Eugenia Blake, who has been attending school at St. Francis academy, acad-emy, Columbus, Neb., returned home, where she will spend her summer vacation. va-cation. Thomas E. Sun. son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sun. one of the popular Sweetwater Sweet-water ranchmen, returned home from ,' . Salt Lake, where he. has .been attending All Hallows college. He was awarded the Father Delahanty medal for proficiency pro-ficiency in studies. Miss Nellie Smith, ' the youngest daughter of Mrs. H. T. Smith, has been awarded a handsome gold medal by Rev. 'Father Ternes for highest grade in her catechism work at St. Joseph's parish school. Mrs. "J. J. Cullen "and children have gone to Westernport, Md., where they will spend the summer, for the benefit of Mrs. Cullen's health. Through the kindness of Mr. F. Blake who gave the use of his lawn, the children of St. Joseph's school enjoyed a pleasant afternoon's entertainment which had been provided for them by the Sisters. Con Quinlan has returned from Nebraska, where he has been on a short visit. Mrs. Mart O'Donnel. accompanied by her mother, Mrs. . O'Donnell, arrived from Salt Lake last Tuesday, and will visit with their relatives during the summer. Willie and Ted Niland, sons of . Division Divi-sion Foreman Niland, returned last week from St. Francis, " Wis., where they have been attending school. Andrew Werne, who has been at the same institution, returned at the same time. J. J. Magner is in Omaha for a short visit. He will bring his family with him on his return home. Rev. Father Ternes has given the plans for a two-story stone building for St. Joseph's school to the contractors, con-tractors, which he hopes to have finished fin-ished for occupancy by Sept. 1. Father Ternes deserves great credit for the perseverance and executive ability with which he has organized and successfully success-fully carried on a most satisfactory school year. He has been amply rewarded re-warded by a large attendance and the hearty approval of the patrons of the school. . Mrs. L. Hays will soon erect a twelve-room house in the western part of town. At St. Joseph's church last, Sunday, Rev. Father Temps administe'red first holy communion to a class of twenty children. The class were enrolled in the scapular and . admitted to the Sodality of the B. V. M., in the evening, even-ing, where there was also a renewal of baptismal vows. Rev. Father Leo DuBois of Salt Lake parish during the absence of Father Ternes. -- Sister M. Casma, accompanied by Sister M. Columba of St Stephen's mission, left last week for Pendleton. Ore., where they will participate in the election of a Mother Superior for the western provincial district . of . the order of St. Francis. Mr. T. A. Ready will spend the Fourth at Saratoga. Among the many Rawlins students who are now returning home for their vacation Miss May Gunning, who has been attending the Sacred Heart academy at Ogden, has won . for herself her-self laurels of which she may well be proud. Miss Gunning succeeded in taking first prize in all her studies and averaging higher than any pupil in the institution. Miss .Gunning is an accomplished musician. Our enterprising ' townsman John Mahoney has let the contract for an eighteen-room house, which when completed, com-pleted, will be one of the finest resN dences in the city. , ' |
