Show Skunk Can Keep Things Smelly A skunk has one of the most ef fective defensive weapons for an animal its size that sickening, saturating, unforgettable spray. A frightened skunk can squirt the vile-smelling vile-smelling liquid up to 10 feet with good aim. With its scent glands removed, a skunk can make a friendly and sometimes playful pet. About the size of a house cat, the skunk has a broad forehead, pointed nose, arched back and, of course, the familiar black fur with the stripe down its back and bushy tail. Skunks hunt most actively at night and stay hidden during the day. They make their dens beneath brush or rock piles. Skunks help farmers by killing and eating insects, rats, mice and other small animals that damage crops. |
