Show Capitol Reef Fruit Crop Readied Monday CAPITOL REEF It has been estimated that the peaches and pears will be ripe and ready for harvest September 8. There is a very small crop of peaches and a fairly good crop of pears. Supt. Derek O. Hambly announced that due to the smaller amount of peaches available, families may be limited to two or three bushels each. The date for the peach harvest this year will be September 8. Pear picking will also start September 8 and continue until they are harvested. The orchards will be open to a "pick-your-own" basis from 9:00 a a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily. Pickers are requested to bring their own ladders and containers. Climbing in the trees is not permitted per-mitted for safety purposes pur-poses and to minimize tree damage. The price for both pears and peaches will be $6.00 per bushel. Persons should check at the visitor center or with a park ranger as to which orchards are open for harvest. At this time it appears as if the apple harvest will begin about the first or second week of October. Oc-tober. There will probably be a medium size crop this year. |
