Show New County Attorney Got What He Bargained For l, mi. nm.lllll I - 1 "iV t'f j v V. j , " . ' Garfield County's new County Attorney At-torney Pat Nolan seems to have gotten everything he bargained for when he selected Garfield County to give him a "wider variety of legal experience and a broader spectrum of activity." He found himself in the midst of legal challenges before he even had a chance to unpack his books. Hired by Garfield County only last month, he was also hired by Panguitch City this past week and hopes to have a little time left over for some private practice. Before attending law school he majored in Spanish at Brigham Young University, later entering the J. Reuben Clark Law School where he graduated in 1977. Admitted to the Utah State Bar in September of that year, he spent his first three years in practice at a Provo law firm. For the past year he was with the Provo office of a Salt Lake City law firm. In Provo he gained additional experience as general counsel for First Security Bank. Nolan and his wife, Renee, had visited in the Garfield County area earlier and when the opening for a county attorney appeared, they decidced to apply. When Nolan was selected by county commissioners over at least nine other applicants, they found themselves packing for Panguitch. Nolan was born at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. He surprised his mother who was visiting her father who was superintendent of the park and hadn't anticipated his arrival for several weeks. Reared in San Bernardino, Ber-nardino, Calif, and a convert to the LDS church in high school, Nolan attended BYU where his Spanish major helped him in his mission to Ecuador. He met his wife, Renee while she attending BYU. After their marriage in Los Angeles, they returned to BYU where he entered law school. Excited about their move to Panguitch, the Nolans look forward to Pat Nolan participating in both church and community activities. Politically active, Renee has been serving as the 1978-1981 Voting District Chairman in the First Congressional District and as Administrative Area Vice-chairman for 1979-1981. She has served as a county and state delegate for the Republican Party for the last two terms and in many other positions with the Utah Republican Party. Certified as a parlimentarian, she spends her spare time pursuing a B.A. in a cooperative government, political science and judicial adminstration program at BYU. They have four young children: Rachael, Rebecca, Mary, and John. |
