Show Mule Deer is Plentiful The lovely, graceful mule deer seen throughout Garfield County has large and furry ears similar to those of a mule thus the name. Usually traveling in herds, they are often seen in meadows or perhaps crossing the highway on their way to water in the early morning or late evening hours. Mule deer eat grasses in the spring and leaves, buds and twigs of shrubs the rest of the year. They will stand on their hind legs to reach low-hanging low-hanging tree limbs. As winter snows blanket the ground, the deer migrate to lower elevations where food is plentiful. |
