Show Auoun& t(e torn Milford is all but forgotten forgot-ten by the National media now that MX is no longer coming to Utah and Nevada. Once on the tongue of almost everybody every-body in the capitol in Salt Lake and Washington D.C., . and certainly familiar to Peking and Moscow, Milford is now only a fading memory. But not to those who live here. Life goes on, and the optimism of local people is epitomized by the progress and development underway. People who are willing to invest their lives and dollars into a town they believe has a future without MX. The Park Motel remodeling remodel-ing is beginning to take shape. The steel units were moved Monday, and will soon be ready for occupancy. The motel itself is starting to take on the Spanish architecture, architec-ture, not at all unlike the Milford Depot torn down last summer. Plans Include a number of new units and a restaurant. The depot itself is to be replaced with a new office building. Union Pacific was to take bids this week. The structure will also have the Spanish architecture of the old depot. Up at Roosevelt Springs Utah Power and Light and Phillips Petroleum turned geothermal steam into the 1.6 megawatt Bi-Phase powerplant this week. And while its expected that there will be a few weeks of testing test-ing before power goes on the grid, the initial operation looks good and holds promise that finally the geothermal reservoir will be developed into an Industry with many facets besides production of electricity. Groundwork for Phillips new pipe yard and office building has got underway just north of the city limits. Drilling should get underway shortly for more geothermal wells and Phillips should be a permanent fixture in Mil-for Mil-for for many years. Work Is progressing on the Milford Industrial Park. R.A. Childs has sewer and water pipes Installed in the park and was completing the laying of pipe to the lagoons this week. The new well Is almost ready to be pump tested. Riley Construction was to begin site instruction for the new 1.9 million gallons storage stor-age tank on Baldy Hill this week. First Interstate Bank is moving right along on their remodeling project. It will include a drive -up window and night depositing. And the Milford Railroad Credit Union is fast completing the cement and landscaping around their new building. The first homes are going up in MilfordManorSubdivi-sion, MilfordManorSubdivi-sion, and several other new homes are under construction. construc-tion. Grubstakers, Inc. Is still driving tunnel at the Leonora Mine and should be into ore soon. Yes, MX maybe deadj but Milford certainly is not. It may grow slower than with MX, but it most certainly will grow. |
