Show H CEDAR'S NEW HOTEL Q SINCE it was announced that the new hotel for Cedar Cily was an assured fact, many people Bj have run away with the idea that the incident I is closed so far as stock subscriptions are concerned nd that there is no further need for worry over the i matter. That the hotel will go along all right and materialize in due time, regardless of what any ol ' the laity does in the matter. In order to correct this erroneous impression perhaps a brief statement ol the conditions may not be amiss. In the first place, the cost and size of the structure struct-ure has not been definitely decided upon, but it it the feeling of the majority of those interested that it would be foolish to build less than 75 guest rooms. The cost per room of the Utah Hotel at Salt Lake City is $5,000. Of the Newhouse Hotel. $3,000. The expense per room of such a hotel as we would be justified in building in Cedar City is variously estimated es-timated at from $1500 to $2000 per room. If we build 75 rooms, therefore, the cost will vary from $120,000 to $150,000, according to the amount of elegance we put into the structure and the furnishings furnish-ings and equipment. We see now to meet the requirements re-quirements here on an investment of less than $120.-000.00. $120.-000.00. At the present time a little more than $50,000 worth of the stock has been subscribed for, so that it is plain to see that our problems are not all solved yet. There is ample opportunity for the "strong" ones to kick in. and also for the little fellows to do their bit. Of course, when possibly 60 per cent, of the capital shall have been raised, the balance of the money can be raised by the sale of bonds; but it will be generally conceded that it would be mucr better if the money could all be raised locally and the management and control of the enterprise kept at home. We are going to have the hotel, and the work will be commenced as early in the spring as is practicable and kept going vigorously until the structure is ready to receive guests, as they swarm over the Arrowhead Trail next summer. But in the mean time, it should have the support and assistance of every person in the community to the extent that their circumstances will permit. No one can afford to i stand with folded arms and leave it to "George." The new hotel with adequate and suitable accommodations accommo-dations to handle the travel which is certain to pass our doors next summer is the biggest thing at the present time that can be undertaken for this community. com-munity. fen |
