IMPORTANT QUESTIONS CONSIDERED BY DELEGATES President Manderfield Calls Convention Con-vention to Order Election Results Re-sults in Return of Old Officials ; Delegates Feted h "on. Club. In some respects there possibly never nev-er was a more important convention held in this city than that of the Arrowhead Ar-rowhead Trails Improvement and De-1 velopment Association, which held sessions here morning and afternoon Saturday, January 12th, and which participated in a banquet given by the Cedar City Commercial club Saturday Sat-urday evening. First, the business of the convention is of paramount importance im-portance to the entire state of Utah, and particularly so to the southwestern southwest-ern counties. And second, because of the hearty spirit of co-operation manifested by the delegates from the various sections represented, which seems to justify the conviction that MM people of the south have seen the importance of co-operation and pulling pul-ling together instead of apart on mat-ten mat-ten calculated to benefit the various localities. This is as It should be, and if adhered to more closely and fost-, ered will be the means of securing B more rapid and healthy growth for the entire southern section of the state, and of bringing about a greater degree of prosperity. The convention convened in the library li-brary Auditorium at 10 a. m. and appointed ap-pointed committees as follows: Committees Are Selected. On Order of Business am! The delegates reassembled in the Library Auditorium, with J. H. Manderfield, Man-derfield, president, wielding the gavel. The president called the convention to order and stated that the frt,' order of business was the appointing of convention chairman and secretary. On motion H. J. Doolittle was elected chairman and Miss Janet Rollo secretary. secre-tary. Mr. Doolittle took the chair and called for the reports of the committee on Resolutions and Order of Business. R. L. Jones, chairman of said committee, com-mittee, read the report which was as follows : Report of Committee on Resolutions and Order of Business. "That the order of business of this convention be as follows: "1. Report of Committee on Credentials. Cre-dentials. "2. Election of Chairman and Secretary Sec-retary for this convention, ":t. The adoption of the following Resolution: "BE IT RESOLVED, That we request re-quest thv' incoming President to appoint ap-point the following committees: a. One committee of three for arranging ar-ranging for a distinctive Arrowhead Trails Sign, and the putting up of the same along the Trail and all its feeders, and for securing of proper road maps and guides for distribution. "b. A committee to complete traffic traf-fic arrangements with the Utah Automobile Auto-mobile Association and with the Auto Club of Southern California and other oth-er highway organizations. President J. H. Manderfield was next called to address the convention. Prts. Manderfield delivered an inspiring inspir-ing talk on "The Arrowhead Trail and its benefits to Southern Utah." He was followed by Secretary ( . H. Bigelow, who gave a report of the i activities of the Arrowhead Trails Improrvement and Development Asso- ciation during 1910, and its contemplated contem-plated work for 1!20. It is needless! to say that Mr. Bigelow was "full of his subject" aul gave a very comprehensive compre-hensive and exhaustive report of the work already accomplished as well as that mapped out for the future, including in-cluding an aggressive publicity cam- paign. . Two minute talks were made by the chairmen of the county delegations present, as follows: i William F. Knox, Beaver County. Uriah T. Jones, Iron County. David Hirschi, Washington county. C. H. Bigelow, for Mr, Griffiths of Nevada, who was not able to be present. pres-ent. Convention Expresses Appreciation. On motion of U. T. Jones the following fol-lowing resolution was unanimouusly adopted : "BE IT RESOLVED by the Arrowhead Arrow-head Trails I. & D. Ass'n assembled, that we hereby tender a vote of thanks to Secretary Bigelow for his mork in promoting the welfare of the Arrowhead Arrow-head Trait." . . , . , On motion of David Hirschi the following fol-lowing resolution was unanimously adopted : "BE IT RESOLVED by the Arrowhead Arrow-head Trails Ass'n assembled, that as an expression of our appreciation of the support accorded the construction and improvement of the Arrowhead Trail by the Hon. Governors, Bamberger Bam-berger of Utah, Campbell of Arizona, and Boyle of Nevada, in their respective respec-tive states, that we hereby tender these gentlemen our thanks for the aid they have given in furthering this road. And the delegates assembled request of our secretary that this motion mo-tion be transcribed and sent to the respective gentlemen." On motion of David Hirschi, the following resolution was also unanimously unani-mously adopted: "BE IT RESOLVED by the Arrowhead Arrow-head Trails I. & D. Chairman H. J. Doolittle read com munications from William Spry, C. Clarence Neslen and the Auto Club of Southern California, by C. E. Mc Stay, expressing their regrets at lie-ing lie-ing unable to be present at the convention. con-vention. A general discussion followed during dur-ing which the following gentlemen wen- heard: Jos. S. Snow, M. D. Hig-bee. Hig-bee. William Mace, and J. T. Tanner. Membership Fee is $.1.00. A motion was made to fix. the membership mem-bership fee at $5.00, which was to include in-clude payment for a $1.00 badge. This motion was amended to have the chairmen of the delegations meet to discuss a proper fee. A recess of ten minutes was taken for this purpose. Upon reassembling Chairman H. J. Doolittle called for the report of the chairman on the matter of the membership mem-bership fee to be charged, and the recommendation WM unanimous for a fee of $:i.00 per annum, and a motion was made to fix the membership fee at this amount, and let the member select and pay for the grade of badge be desired, in addition. This motion was amended to have the membership of $3.00 carry one of the cheaper grade badges. The amendment was carried. On motion it was decided to organize organ-ize auxiliaries to the Arrowhead Trails Association. It was moved and caried that each delegate present was to pay the $3.00 membership fee liefore leaving the convention, and to do his utmost to secure as many other members as possible. pos-sible. The Beaver county delegation pledged themselves to secure at least 100 niemliers. Chairman II. J. Doolittle read the report of the committee on Nomina tions, which was as follows: Report of Committee on Nominations. "Your Committee on Nominations appointed to present nominations for officers for 1020 beg to make the following fol-lowing recommendations New Officers Are Elected. "For president of the association, J. H. Manderfield. "For vice-president, Jos. S. Snow. "For secretary, C. H. Bigelow. Whit-more; Whit-more; Utah county, T. N. Taylor; Salt Lake county, Joseph Decker; Millard county, Claud Collister; Mohave county, coun-ty, Ariz., J. II. Rosenberg." Report of the committee was unanimously unan-imously adopted. It was decided by a motion to urge that the portion of the Arrowhead Trail about seven miles north of Beaver Bea-ver and about eight miles in length, be changed. By motion it was decided to hold the next annual meeting of the Asso-l Asso-l ciation in Beaver City The following resolution was unanimously unan-imously adopted: "BE IT RESOLVED by the Arrow head Trails Association, assembled, that we hereby tender a vote of thanks to Iron county, Washington county, Reaver county and Millard county for the financial support given by the county commissioners of those counties coun-ties during 1910 of $25 per month by each. t On motion the officers of the association asso-ciation were requested to call the attention at-tention of the proper officials of Utah and Arizona to the condition of the rond between Kanab and Hurricane, and recommend its repair. On motion the officers of the association as-sociation were also requested to do everything in their power to see that the road between Lund and Cedar City and Parowan be put through to completion. com-pletion. Meeting adjourned. Delegates Fetel by Commercial Club. In the evening visiting delegates were made guests of honor at an elaborate el-aborate banquet, ball and program of music and speaking given by the Cedar Ce-dar City Commercial club, and served by the Arcadian Cafe and the Cedars Hotel cabaret style. Everything went off smoothly and apparently everybody ev-erybody had a good time nnd the visitors vis-itors departed vowing that Cedar City is not to be outdone in the matter of hospitality and entertainment of its guests. |
