Claude Frei, of Santa Clara, Utah, 'secretary of the Southern Utah 'Association of Livestock Men, protesting pro-testing against the creation of a game refuge in Houserock valley, Arizona. "Prior to the receipt of such pretest withdrawal of the public lands in about' 187,000 acres in such valley had been requested by-Senators by-Senators Hayden and Ashurst and Representative Douglas, in aid of legislation to reserve the area as a game refuge for buffalo and antelope an-telope at the instance of the Arizona Ari-zona game commission. "The investigation by the field service of the general land office cf this department referred to in departmental letter to you of July 23, based upon protests against the game refuge project transmitted by Representative Colton and yourself, your-self, has been completed and report re-port submitted. During the latter part of such investigation the Arizona Ari-zona game commission reduced its game refuge project to an area of approximately 44,000 acres at the southern end of the valley and it appears from the report submitted submit-ted by the representatives of the Seld service making the examina-ii:n examina-ii:n that the diminished crea will i be ample for the desired purpose and will not seriously affect the cattle industry in the valley. "I have, therefore, in view of the requests for such action above referred to, recommended to the president under this date temporary tempo-rary withdrawal under the act of June 25, 1810, of the public lands within the diminished area, in aid of legislation." |
