Show 'marine returns fr03i far east Fred Ward, son of Mrs. Annie J. Van Orden, -has returned to St. George, having been discharged after serving a four-year enlistment enlist-ment in the marine corps. left here January 19, 1927, and joined the marines at San Diego. On February 27 of that year he sailed aboard the U. S. S. Chaumont for Shanghai, China. He was later transferred from Shanghai to Manila, Philippine Islands, where he remained until November 28, 1927. On that date he boarded the TJ. S. S. Tulsa at Cavita and returned to China, being be-ing stationed at Hong Kong on the U. S. patrol. Five days were required re-quired for the trip. Summers in China, he says, are very hot, with lov.- humidity. From January to the last of April rain falls almost continuously. Places of interest visited include Hong Kong, Canton, Hangkau, some of the beautiful temples and palaces at -Peking, the $5,000,000 monument at Sun Yatsen at Nanking, Nan-king, the battlefield of the Japanese-Russian war in Manchuria and Port Arthur. |
