Show "REGULATED' PRIZE FIGHTING IN NEW YORK. The scandalous happenings in and around the Madison Square Garden show that we are again In for an era of prize fighting such as the do-cent do-cent people of this State ended with the Horton law. The whole subterfuge subter-fuge of a boxing commission to "regulate" "reg-ulate" the sport now appears for what It Is worth, and apparently the law is all on the side of the firhters and their backers, who think they see millions in It. The character of the contests wo are likely to havo 1b apparent ap-parent from the unfair treatment, not to say swindling, of tho crowds that attonded. So far as every sign goes, we shall quickly revert to tho old condition of "fake" fights and all the other forms of swlndlins that marked the period before the Horton law In- , spector McClusky Is reported as saying say-ing that It is already the "same old game." For this tjic responsibility Is squarelv on the shoulders of John A. Dlx. He was told what this bill rneant and what the consequence would be, yet signed it to oblige hi Tammany friends, with his eyes open The only reparation he can make Is to admit his mistake and to ask for the law's repeal Last night's exhibition exhi-bition ought to bo enough for him.
