President Presi-dent Taft found what may prove to be tho heartiest welcome of his entire trip awaiting him horo in San Francisco Fran-cisco tonight. He had spent tho entire en-tire day in the state, traveling down from the northern border, whoro Governor Gov-ernor Hiram W. Johnson and a party of officials met him. Governor Johnson is the insurgent Republican leader in tho stato and much interest was manifested in what he had to say In Introducing tho president presi-dent The governor used but fow words and invariably referred to Mr. Taft as "the president of the United Slates." Governor Introduces President. It was at Marysvlllo this morning that the governor first appeared on tho platform with the president "Ladies and gentlemen," ho said, "welcome to tho president of the United Uni-ted 8tates." At the conclusion of Mr. Taft's brief nddress the governor called for three cheers and they were given lustily. At tho state capital, Sacramento, Mr. Taft spent two hours and spoke from the capltol stepB. Mayor Beard officially welcomed him to the city and paid a tribute to Mr. Taft for his offorts looking to international peace. Govornor Johnson then introduced tho presldont, who was still suffering today to-day from hoarseness. "We are always glad to havo a presldont of the" United States with us," ho said, "and we aro doubly glad today. I bespeak your close attention and ask that you maintain as much quiet as posslblo to relievo tho stralu under which he has been sufforing on this long tour.
