Show POVERTY AND SHAME OF COUPLE Believing that J. T. Stewart, aged 20 years, has been Importuning his wife, aged 16 years, to live a life of shame, the police have arrested the young husband and are holding his child-like wife as a witness. Stewart denies his guilt Young Mrs. Stewart according to the police, has been on tho streets, plying an illicit trade for the past two wcoks and whon arrested told a story of poverty caused by her husband's hus-band's Illness. She also intimated that her husband, who Is a singer by vocation, vo-cation, hns had no work and desired her to go on the streets to secure money to pay the ,fbom rent which was then due. Onthls information the husband was arrested. When questIonodf.thi8 morning, the young wifo stitcd ,'that she had married mar-ried Stewart In Po'catollo last January Janu-ary and that she had led a moral life until two ieeks ago, when her husband hus-band was ill and th,ere was no money to pay the rent 'She said that she had talked tho matter over with her husband and had loft him in his room and had gone out upon tho street to secure money to pay the rent. In the most deliberate manner tho young woman told the story of her shamo but made every effort to shield her husband. Later, when the husband was questioned, ques-tioned, he denied that ho had been a partner to his wife's shame. Just what charge will be placed aga'nst the husband has not been determined, though it is probable that he will be charged with vagrancy. |
