Show Business Men Ask For Night Police Representatives oi the Guimison Lions club went before the members of the city council last Saturday evening eve-ning and mr.de a proposal that the city employ a mghtwatehman, especially espec-ially during the winter months. It I was pointed out that other cit'es have been visited by "night prowlers" and j a wave of pilfering is in ev:dence i throi-gh the country, according to re- ports. In the past, the Lions repre -entative stated, Gunnison has had some real burglaries committed, and 'o safeguard the business houses and the citizens who pay for the protection, protec-tion, a nightwatchman should be pro v'ded for and that the city stand the 'ost of employing the night guard. No action was taken by members of the council, as this feature was ot considered in the budget prepared err 1930. Suffic'ent funds, however, ould be available from certain funds "or the employment of a watchman f-r a period of three months, but fu' ther than that, council members 'ould not see their way clear. The mr.tter is now back to the business men and l'kely the matter will be alien up with the inauguration of the new city officers. The 1930 budget for the city occupied occu-pied the major portion of the t'me at the regular council meeting. The tentative budget was submitted by Mayor E, L. Swalberg and an ordinance, ordin-ance, outlin'ng the various appropriations, appropria-tions, was passed and ordered published. pub-lished. The budget, as it now stands, "alls for an expenditure of $9,042.56. and is about $1,500 below the estimate. |
