Many candidates developed for the office of president of the Utah Teachers' association when officers were placed In nomination Friday afternoon at the close of the afternoon programme, but xProf. Byron Cummings received the coveted honor, as foretold in The Telegram. Byron Cummings of the University was ejected president; Miss Rosalie Pollock, . primary supervisor of the Salt Lake 'City schools, vice-president; Miss Elizabeth Eliz-abeth Orth, primary supervisor of the Ogden . schools, second vice-president. The new director for the term' of three years is Superintendent A. L. Larson of Sanpete. The office of secretary and treasurer combined will be filled by the appointment of the president. The amount of salary was changed, the amendment being that Instead -of $100 to (200, the executive committee should decide what the services of secretary and treasurer had been worth. It being thought by many that J 100 was too high. The nominees for president were Prof. Cummings, Prof. George A. Eaton, principal of the Salt Lake high school; Prof. Richard Lyman of the U. of U., and Superintendent L. E. Eggertson of the Utah county schools. The treasurer's report was Incomplete, Incom-plete, as all of the dues have not been collected. It showed $454 collected and a balance of $129.28 from last year. Judge William H. King delivered the address of the afternoon and paid an eloquent tribute to the teachers of the State and their ability in the face of many discouraging things. He said that in his opinion . teachers were underpaid un-derpaid and that more money should be spent on salaries. The final meeting of the association |
