"This movement on the part of The Telegram and Salt Lake s citizens is timely and opportune. Utah has manifold mani-fold opportunities for capital, brains and energetic and progressive citizens. Thousands of this clans of people can be reached through Judicious and properly prop-erly selected advertising matter. Advertising Ad-vertising is the great motive power of this twentieth century. The American people are, above all other things, readers, read-ers, and advertisements lir well-selected mediums cannot fail to reach the eye of hundreds and thousands of the very class whose attraction is wanted. "Printer's Ink and paper are doing a volume of the world's business today that would' be startling for a moment If it could he fully set forth In figures. They are displacing many of the! agencies formerly used for reaching the people. During the late campaign hundreds hun-dreds of thousands of dollars were spent In newspaper and magazine advertising. Less money was spent In distributing campaign literature and in sending out speakers than for twenty 'years past. It is an undisputed fact that more of the conservative class of people can be reached through the press nowadays than through any other agency." The Telegram's page advertisement In the January Issue of Harper's Magazine Maga-zine has turned the attention of the country to the remarkable resources of Utah and the splendid attractions as a residence city presented by Salt Lake City. The Telegram is receiving many inquiries in-quiries from all sections of the United States about Utah and Salt Lake and especially the Uintah reservation. As these letters are received they are turned over to commercial bodies that have literature bearing on the attraction attrac-tion of the city and State. The following follow-ing is a sample of some of the letters The Telegram has received: "Bemldjl. Minn. To The Telegram: Would you be kind enough to send me all the information you have with regard re-gard to the soil and resources of Utah and particularly with regard to the Uintah reservation. I am looking for a home in the West and want to know all about Utah. I saw your page advertisement ad-vertisement in. Harper's Magazine and therefore write you. Yours very truly, "H. E. PALMER" The Telegram will have another advertisement ad-vertisement in the March number of Harper's Magazine. Many Eastern papers pa-pers have referred to The Telegram's page advertisement in complimentary terms. The Richfield (Utah) Reaper has the following editorial on the subject: sub-ject: Growth of Advertising. "The Salt Lake Telegram is ably supporting a movement for having Utah's capital city and metropolis, and Incidentally the whole State properly advertised not the kind now being received because of political conditions, condi-tions, but the kind that will give the people in other parts of the country, particularly in the East, where money is looking for Investment and active, energetic people are looking for opportunities, oppor-tunities, somewhat of an idea of the advantages that Utah and her leading city offer the Invester, the speculator, the factory builder, the industrial promoter, pro-moter, the home-seeker, the farm developer, devel-oper, and othrs who are finding the fields at home becoming limited for those of limited means especially. "There Is a general movement on foot in Salt Lake by her business and professional pro-fessional men and houses to have a regular and systematic advertising propaganda pro-paganda inaugurated to be continued throughout the coming year to make the metropolis and the State attractive to investors. The Telegram is leading out in this matter and has contracted for a page advertisement in one of. the leading American magazines for January Janu-ary In which will be set forth such an array of attraction regarding.
