Show BISHOP SPALDING HAS PARALYTIC STROKE PEORIA, IU., Jan. 7.-Blahop John L. Spalding of the Roman Catholic church Friday suffered a severe paralytic stroke. His brother, Dr Leonard H. Spalding, is by his side continually. The entire left side of the bishop's body Is affected, and for several hours after the stroke he was unable to apeak. Leeches applied to his head resulted In bringing back, in a tneas I ure, his speech, and last night he was able to talk. The bishop Is K years of age, snd while he has been In fair health all his life, his sge tends to add to ths fear of his friends for another and more serious attack. He complained Friday that he wss suffering suf-fering with a slight attack of neuralgia; but nothing more was thought about It. About 4 o'clock his housekeeper wss startled by the sound of a fall In the bishop's room. She ran hastily to the place and found him lying on the floor, partially unconscious snd unable to rise. At a late hour last night he was resting comfortably. |
