Show Death Of the Eev. A. Corish, C. C. On Friday the solemn Office and High Mass was celebrated in Courtnacuddy for the repose of the soul of a young and erudita priest Father Cornish who passed to his reward on Thursday. Thurs-day. Clergy were present from every parish in the deanery of Ferns, and l the benches were packed by his late f parishioners. . who reverenced him because be-cause of his holiness and sympathy. Rev. P. O'Connor, P. P., Davidstown, presided. Father Pettit officiated as celebrant. Father Kennedy as deacon and Father Albert Lennon as sub-deacon. sub-deacon. The chanters were Father Murphy, Kiltealy, and Father Parker, Newtownbarry, whilst Father Quigley, M.S.S., officiated as master of ceremonies. cere-monies. On the conclusion of the mass the remains were interred in the church where Father Cornish had ministered min-istered since his ordination eight years ago. The deceased was only 34 years of age. ; On Sunday His Grace the Archbishop of Dublin presided at a largely-attended meeting at the Sacret Heart Home, and delivered an important address ad-dress on the work of the proselytisers. Mr. John L. Beare has been appointed ap-pointed professor of Greek in the. University Uni-versity of Dublin, in succession to Mr. J. B. Bury, latelv appointed to a similar sim-ilar chair at Oxford. Mr. Bearne is a fellow of Trinity college. Thursday morning, between 1 ana -o'clock, a .woman named Lizze Smith, who resides in Purdon street, was rescued res-cued from the Liffey and conveyed in the ambulance to Jervis Street hospital, hos-pital, where she was attended to by Dr. Ryan and detained a patient. Judgment was given in the Kings bench division on Saturday in the case of the prosecution under the crimes act against Mr. McCarthy, as editor, Mr. Holland, as printer, and Mr. Dwyer, as business manager of the Irish People.- Mr. Mahoney's decision sentencing sentenc-ing Mr. McCarthy to two months' imprisonment im-prisonment was confirmed. The sentences sen-tences on Messrs. Holland and Dwyer were quashed. S A conference of principals and organizing or-ganizing secretaries of Irish technical schools was held on Friday at the Roval College of Science, Dublin. A number of interesting papers were read: and it was decided to form an association of principals, to be opened also to secretaries who were acting as directors of technical schools. The city coroner (Dr. Louis Byrne) held an inquest in the Children's hospital, hos-pital, Temple street, Dublin, on Friday Fri-day evening at 4:30 to inquire in-quire into the circumstances attending at-tending the death of a child named Mary Gillard, aged two and one-half years. It appeared from the evidence that on the previous evening Mrs, Q?l-lard Q?l-lard left her little daughter in a rtfpm of her residence, 12 Henrietta place, and on returning in a few minutes found the child's clothes in flames. She immediately put a shawl around the child and conveyed her to the. hospital, where she died of shock resulting from the burns. The jury found accordingly. In the King's bench division, Dublin, on Thursday. Dec. 25, in the. case of the Herald Works, Ltd., vs. the Freeman's Free-man's Journal, Ltd., in which thevplain-tiffs thevplain-tiffs claim 7.000 damages for alleged libel, application was made on behalf of the defendant company for an order of discovery of documents and for leave to administer Interrogatories to - Mr. ! Jasper Tully, M. P., stated to be a director and acting secretary of . the plaintiff company: and to Mr. William Tully. Mr. Justice Kenny made an order that an affidavit of discovery be made bv Mr. Jasper Tully, M. P., and that notice of motion should be served by the defendant company with reference refer-ence to the interrogatories. On Wednesday evening an exciting scene took place on the Dodder Dod-der banks, Dublin. A horse and cart, the property of Mr. Thomas Murphy of Milltown. was being be-ing driven along the Dodder from Mill-town Mill-town and when near Mr. Blackburne's demesne at the Waterfall the horse took fright and the driver having lost control jumped into the river, which was in flood at the time. The driver was thrown under the cart in the water, wa-ter, but fortunately, owing to the depth of the water at the place, the cart floated and did him no injury. He escaped es-caped with a good ducking. The police from Rathfarnham and D. M. P. Sergeant Ser-geant 8 E assisted in getting the horse and cart ashore, with only the loss of some of the harness. |
