Show By Harriet Priska 8264810 Income lax day started out with a bang. About 5 a.m. residents were awakened by a very loud clap of thunder and lightning which was seen through the eyelids of several sleepers. Two more rumbles followed shortly thereafter and many never got back to sleep. Thunder showers continued throughout the day and into the next. The fruit trees continue to bloom 3-4 weeks early and a "painted lady" butterfly migration has been observed throughout the western half of the state. They came through in May of last year and were previously recorded in 1930 and 1931. These minute travelers have flown from Baja, Calif, and will end up in Montana, weather permitting. Eastering was on a lot of people's minds. The Lane Liston clan always goes down to the desert for picnicking and Easter egg rolling. Francis and Barbara Imlay enjoyed en-joyed daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Farrell Oldroyd, Evanston, Wyo., who came down for an "early Easter" so Lori could attend her brother John's Junior Prom. Everyone Ev-eryone really enjoyed the event. The Bob Munsons and daughter and son-in-law, Rea Jean and Todd Monson, were here from Spring-ville Spring-ville for the Easter break. Brian and Sue Lynn Griffin came down from Ogden to see Bill and Dawn Griffin. Brian continues to work on his place in Boulder. Blake and Betty Schow, Salt Lake City were also here visiting Bill and Dawn Griffin and Omar Woods came up from San Juan Capistrano, Calif, to look at his property and help Bill put the roof on his new garage. The Griffins also managed to squeeze in a trip to Emery County to visit son, Boyd Griffin. Hank and Naomi Bolton went up to the Manti LDS Temple to attend at-tend the Bowman wedding. LaPriel and Usher Spencer also attended the wedding and then traveled on up to Provo to visit daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Garry Cottam and Dixie Rikebach. Gail and Donna Bailey are home from Mesa, Ariz, for the summer. Thais Griffin enjoyed a weekend in St. George with her sister Beverly Bev-erly Crosby from Panguitch. Eleven senior citizens went to Richfield for doctors appointments and shopping. They recently held a shower for Jody Brooks whose husband, hus-band, Kay works for Garkane. Deon Alvey and Velma Boulter are going to Pleasant Grove for four days to attend a meeting of the State Board on Aging. They also plan to visit relatives and have a lark. Velma Boulter, leader of the single adults at the Escalante LDS Stake, reports a very successful "fireside" attended by 130 people. Gracia Jones came from St. George to speak on her ancestor, Joseph Smith Jr. and the history of the Mormon Church. Deon Alvey assisted as-sisted her afterwards in serving root beer floats. See Escalante News Page 4 Escalante News From Page 3 Phyllis and Ed Jarrett came to the Color Country Gem and Mineral Min-eral Society meeting from their new home in Kingston. They retired there last November from the Salt Lake area. Phyllis Porter was born in Escalante and looks forward to visiting many friends and relatives at the Porter reunion here in May. Marlene Gibb, Nancy Bruschke and Barbi Moss from the Breast Care Services Unit of the Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City all extend their sincere thanks to the ladies of Boulder, Escalante and Bryce Valley for such a fine response re-sponse to the recent cancer screen-ingmammography screen-ingmammography clinics held in the area. |
