Show Council Discusses Summer School Summer school in Park City was briefly discussed during the Marsac School Community Council Coun-cil meeting Tuesday in the library at the Elementary school. Council Chairman, Nancy McComb, had planned a meeting Tuesday night at the high School to further explore the feasibility of establishing estab-lishing a summer school in town. Mrs. McComb said this would be the first meeting of the recently formed summer school task force. School Board representative, Ann Prince, said during the Marsac meeting that in order to allay costs for summer school programs, parents may need to be charged, and Nancy McComb agreed. Apparently, there are no funds allocated in the present school budget to pay for a summer school. It was announced at the meeting that 50 children are expected to sign up for the fluoride rinse program at Marsac Elementary School. As soon as the fluoride rinse order arrives, the program will begin, which is expected to be around the end of January. Mrs. McComb said the rinse, which has been proven to decrease tooth decay, will be administered each Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in the media-center at Marsac. The cultural enrichment programs pro-grams at Marsac will include a Book Fair in January when Christopher Fair, a member of Ballet West in Salt Lake, will perform at the elementary school. Nancy McComb said plans were still tentative, but added she hoped the Art Center would join the elementary school and have Mr. Fair perform in their main gallery. Mrs. McComb said she wanted all proceeds to go toward purchasing library books for Marsac. And in February, singer Dan Ballestrero from Salt Lake will also appear at the elementary school. 20 students from the 4th grade have been involved in "Reader's Theatre." The Readers Theatre is designed to increase students' appreciation for literature, as well as help them to become more aware of the author's intentions. Nancy McComb is 1 of 4 parents who helped organize Readers Theatre at Marsac. Finally, 23 students at Marsac have been determined to have learning disabilities and will participate in the district's special education program which is being financed through state funds. The Marsac School Community Council meets every 3rd Tuesday of each month in the multi-purpose room at the elementary school. Pat Whitfield, U.S. Ski Team Public Information Director, Direc-tor, joined the council this week. There are now 7 members on the Marsac Council. |
