Show Marsac Notes morning. Parents have been making games, flash cards, and activity cards for students to use in the classroom. From the . teachers viewpoint these workshops work-shops have been a success and a tremendous help in the classrooms. class-rooms. Thursday there will be an assembly for cross country ski enthusiasts. Merit Glenne will be directing this program. On Friday soccer players will be recognized at an assembly. Awards and presentations will be given. The staff and students are looking forward to Thanksgiving and the activities that come with that holiday. We were glad for the many parents that came to Parent Teacher Conferences. Mrs. Stark met with the parents of twenty-seven twenty-seven students in one afternoon. Kindergartners have been learning about different Indian tribes and about the first Thanksgiving. The children are using the new board games and materials the classroom mothers have made. They are enjoying these games. First graders in Mrs. Salomon's Salo-mon's room have been studying about Switzerland. Ashley Imbo-den, Imbo-den, a student who spent sometime in Switzerland, prompted prompt-ed this study. The boys and girls made Swiss flags and learned about William Tell. They enjoyed their visit to the post office. Now they are focusing their learning on Indians and know about Sara Fourth graders in both rooms have been collecting recycling materials to earn money. They plan to use this money to attend a performance of Tom Sawyer on November 17, 1977. Map skills, studying the water cycle, and string designs are just some of the activities in Mr. Jensen's, Mrs. Burn's, and Dr. Fall's classes. Third and fourth graders are beginning to work on their Christmas program. They have chosen "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" for their part. A parent volunteer workshop will be held this coming Friday Winnemucca and Winnemucca, Nevada. First graders in Miss Davis and Mrs. Bogue's rooms are progressing pro-gressing in the areas of math and reading. Students are learning about Indians. They have made beads, head dresses, cradle boards, - tepees for an Indian village, and written' picture stories using Indian symbols. They will be doing weaving and making bowls and drums. To culminate this study these classes plan an Indian PowWow this coming Thursday. Students will cook Indian foods, do Indian dances, and have a ceremony planned. Second graders are busy. They are doing print making in art, learning about animals in science, and studying Indians. They have covered materials on the Woods Indians, the Plains Indians, and will be doing Indians of the Northwest. As a followup on their fire prevention unit, the second graders plan to visit the Fire Department. Third graders have completed their first books in reading and are busy with post and pre tests. In their Science Studies on the changing earth they've made their own rocks out of cement and sand. They've made shale, sandstone, and limestone. In Social Studies they are finding out how cities are formed. Mrs. Bailey and Mr. Jensen have been pleased with the activities. All of the fourth graders are involved in Reader's Theatre. Students have presented scripts to the other classes and to their parents. It's a unique form of presentations and the studentss are doing extremely well. Parents have helped the students with their readings. |
