Show THE Page 6 OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume X Issue X September 1, 2004 Announcements Birthdays Anniversaries Weddings Allred-Richards Thomas Poulter Mr. & Mrs. Stanley Wangsgaard, Jerry and Sheryl Taggart Jerry and Sheryl Taggart— Jerry and Sheryl Taggart of Eden will celebrate their 50" wedding anniversary on September 17. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple, September 17, 1954. Both Jerry and Sheryl were raised in Ogden and both graduated from Ogden High School where they met and became sweethearts. Jerry continued his schooling at the University of Utah where he received his degree in engineering. Together they raised four children: Kim Vincent, Scott Taggart, Kelly Bruen, and Jeff Taggart. They have seven grandchildren and enjoy camping, playing games, and having great cookouts with their family. Their children would like to invite family and friends to join in celebrating this special occasion at an Open House held in their honor on September 18, 2004 at the home of their daughter, Kim Vincent, 5013 E. 2725 N., Eden, Utah, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. In case of inclement weather, follow the Highway two blocks north of 2725 to the white LDS church across from Snowcrest Jr. High. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley F. Wangsgaard— Stanley and Pauline Wangsgaard of Huntsville and Salt Lake City are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on September 1 with their family. They were married September 1, 1944 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple with David O. McKay officiating. As a special commemoration, they are planning for a Nauvoo Temple Tour and will attend the temple there, as well as the St. Louis and Winter Quarter temples. He is the son of Harvey C. Wangsgaard and Veda May Ferrin, born October 21, 1920 in Huntsville where he attended school, graduating from Weber High School in 1939. He also attended Weber Junior College. During World War II he served in the United States Coast Guard Atlantic Fleet aboard USS Pride Destroyer Escort 323, and USS Monticello AP 61 a Troop Transport. He was raised a farmer and had been a school teacher and beautician before his 1944 employment in the LDS Church Historian’s office for ten years. He later worked at Hercules Powder Company and the US. Postal Service as a mail carrier, retiring in 1981. He has held many positions in the LDS Church, including Ward Clerk under four bishops in two wards. Scoutmaster for ten years helping 45 boys become Eagle Scouts and to receive their Duty to God Awards. During this time in scouting, they experienced a week of camping every summer—sometimes at Scout Camps and wilderness camps, but mostly 50 miler camps where each one carried their food, bedding, and clothing in their pack from the beginning to completion, always through off road wilderness country. He served many times as chairman of their voting district, a judge of elections, and as district representative to the state convention. She is the daughter of Laurence N. Cottle and Lettie Rosella Lund, born June 5, 1924 in Plain City, Utah where she attended school, graduating from Weber High School and Seminary in 1942. She worked at Weber Central Dairy. She has had many callings in the LDS Church, including President of YWMIA, Relief Society presidency, Primary presidency and secretary, and Stake Sunday School secretary. She and Stanley have always been members of their ward choir. She was registrar in their voting district for 15 years, and a judge of elections. She joined the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She has crocheted afghans for all of her children and grandchildren. Most importantly, she served her family by providing for all their needs and supporting their activities—a true homemaker and stay at home mother. Their ten children and spouses are: Sharlene and Russell Green, Kit and Steven Lincoln, Eric Wangsgaard, Jill and Gary Thompson, Paul and Shelly Wangsgaard, Ned and Teri Wangsgaard, Lonn Wangsgaard, Rex and Heidi Wangsgaard, Tim and Linda Wangsgaard, Babs and Stephen Ison. They have 42 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. Thomas “Bud” Poulter celebrated his 90th birthday on Saturday, June 7, in Huntsville at the home of his brother Bill Poulter. A picnic was held for his friends and family. He was born August 6, 1914, in Ogden to Lee C. Poulter and Effie Grow Poulter. In January, 1942, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed most of World War II in England in the 418th Bomb Group, also at a B-17 base and the Hunters Bomb Group. On his discharge he went to work for Williamson Truck Body in Ogden. He moved to California and worked for Hughes Aircraft, Centering Engineering, Air Forum, and Swift Corporation as a tool and die maker. While in California he married Florence Anderson. After she died, he moved back to Utah to be near his brother Bill Poulter and his sister Elaine Hilton. His interests have included hunting and fishing with his friend Nick Ficklin. As a surprise, his sister Marguarite Erickson and her son Conard Mondrans arrived for the party from Walnut Creek, California. Candice Melissa Allred and Michael Ray Richards were married Friday, August 6, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. A garden reception was held in their honor that evening at the home of the bride’s parents. The bride is the daughter of Kirk and Leslie Allred of North Ogden. Parents of the bridegroom are Stephen and Christine Richards of Eden. The bride is a graduate of Weber High School and LDS Seminary. She is pursuing a degree in early childhood education from Utah State University. The bridegroom graduated from Weber High School and LDS Seminary. He served in the Haiti Port-au-Prince LDS Mission. He attends Weber State University and is employed at Richards Sheet Metal. The new couple will live in Ogden after their honeymoon to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Yellowstone National Park. Longfellow-Templeton JanNell Marie Longfellow and James Edward Templeton were united in marriage August 21 at the Red Moose Lodge. The bride is the daughter of Doug and Mary Longfellow of Farr West. Parents of the bridegroom are Malinda Templeton of North Ogden, and Jim and Mary Templeton of Eden. The bride chose Sarah Wilson as her matron of honor, and Kristen Peterson and Jenny Templeton as her bridesmaids. Justin Hansen performed duties of best man, with Mike Ashworth, Austin Barker, and Chase Longfellow as groomsmen. The bride is a graduate of Ben Lomond High School and Stacey’s Beauty College. She is employed at Bonneville Collections. The bridegroom is a graduate of Weber High School. He is employed with Sands Excavation. The new couple will live in Ogden after their honeymoon in California. Lowell G. Stallings Lowell G Stallings of Eden will celebrated his 85th birthday with family and friends on August 8. He was born in Eden and has lived most of his life in the Ogden Valley. He graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber Academy. He graduated from Utah State University. One of the highlights of his life was serving an LDS mission to the Japanese people in Hawaii from 1939 to 1942. He married Margaret Grow in 1944. They will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in September. He had a Holstein dairy farm of 70 head. He still raises alfalfa and barley, doing most of the irrigating himself. He was director of Weber Central Dairy and active in the Farm Bureau and Dairy Herd Improvement Association. He was director of the Eden Irrigation Company and active in the Weber County Soil Conservation District for ten years. He served as bishop of the Eden LDS Ward and served in the Huntsville LDS Stake Presidency, as well as many other callings in the LDS Church. He has four children: George Stallings, Eden; Jan and Richard Wight, Ogden; Sharon and Brad Vause, Eden; and Sandra and David Jenkins, Eden. He has 15 grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.
