She was reared and educated in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School and LDS Seminary. She attended Utah State University. She moved to North Ogden in 1954 and to Huntsville in 1973 where she resided the remainder of her life. a was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various callings including Young Womens, Den Mother, Sports Director, Choir, Visiting Teacher, and in the Primary. In her youth she was a member of the Ogden Swim Team and Weber County Jr. Posse. Luana was also a member of the Ogden Valley Chordettes. She loved animals and raised many of them over the years. Surviving are her husband, Lynn, of Huntsville; one son and seven daughters, Chris Stringham, Ogden; Joyce (Danny) Day, West Haven; Carol (Blair) Nelson, Farr West; Lynda (Randy) Kummer, Strongsville, Ohil; Helen (Farley) Anderson, Paradise; Lei Lani (Casey) Gauchat, Huntsville; Laura (Burke) Shupe, and Patti (Duane) Done, both of North Ogden; 28 grandchildren plus two on the way; and one great-grandchild on the way. Also surviving are two brothers, Almon Jr. (Roseanne) Bate, Ogden; John “Jack” Bate. Luana was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one grandson Funeral services were held August 20 at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s a Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Her family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Brent Williams, Odyssey Hospice, and a special thanks to Cass. Email condolences to the family at <lom@lindquistmortuary.com> Margaret Lucile Stegen Love, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2004 surrounded by her loving family following an eight-month courageous battle with caner. She was born April 7, 1929 in Ogden, a daughter of Samuel Victor and Margaret Lucile Fowler Stegen. She attended Ogden City Schools, graduating from Ogden High School. She attended Weber State College where she was song leader, and received an Associates egree. Margaret married Fairen Love on April 7, 1950. Their marriage was solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple on May 16, 1981. Margaret worked for the OSI at Hill Air Force Base. She also worked at Club Heights Elementary School and retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 1996. Margaret and Fairen volunteered for many years at the Visitors Center at Antelope Island until her health would no longer permit it. Margaret was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Washington Terrace 2nd Ward. She held various positions including Primary President and Relief Society President. Surviving are her husband, Fairen, of Riverdale; her children, Marilyn (John) Thorstensen, Eden; RaNae (Brian) Marietti, Roy; Linda (Kevin) Porowski, British Columbia, Canada; David (Lesa) Love and Ann (Calvin) Olson, West Haven; 17 grandchildren, Ryan (Jamie) Thorstensen, Tina (Darin) Coleman, Lana Thorstensen, Jennifer and Robert Green, Robyn, Heather, and Brittany Marietti, Brian and Andrew Porowski, Sloane and Taz Love, Austin, Whitney and Jacee Olson; and three great-grandchildren, Alayna Thorstensen, Brennen, and Carter Coleman. Also surviving are her brothers Robert (Junice) Stegen, Wallace (Bonnie) Stegen, and Carl (Elisabeth) Stegen; a great aunt, Mildred (Arthur) Lafeber; special cousin Yvonne Smith; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lucile Stegen, her in-laws Hugh and Cora Love, and one brother, Ralph Stegen. Special thanks to Dr. Vincent Hansen and staff, Heritage Brookside Homecare, IHC Hospice, and Peach Tree Place Assisted Living. Funeral services were held August 7 at the Ogden 49th Ward Chapel, 4310 South 300 Mark A. Kingston Mark Allen Kingston, 82, died Monday, August 16, 2004 at his home of congestive heart failure. He was born January 1, 1922 in Kaysville, the son of Clarence and Viva Witt Kingston. In 1945, Mark married Dorthy E. Phellps Batchelor in Reno, Nevada. They were later divorced. He married Verla Nalder Robinson in 1977 in Elko, Nevada. He grew up in Taylor, Utah. He worked in Montana and Florida, returning to Mountain Green where he resided for over 40 years. Mark was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in numerous positions including a Home Mission. He proudly served his country during World War II with the U.S. Air Force in the Tinian Island, Guam and the South Pacific. She was born August 8, 1934 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, a daughter of Almon Birdell and Helen Innes Bateman Bate. Hilma Leavitt Carver, 85, passed away at her home. As a lifetime registered nurse her final victory was stealing death from the jaws of cancer by succumbing to heart failure. Hilma was born on January 5, 1919, in Escalante, Utah to Leona Shurtz and Percy J. Leavitt. She was raised in Boulder, Utah and educated in Escalante and Richfield, Utah. She graduated from St. Marks Hospital with a degree in nurses training. She married Roberts F. Carver on October 22, 1938. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She was named Nurse of the Year, Lady Marksman of the Year and to her family, she was always Mother of the Year. She was a registered nurse with the gift of healing. She was a private duty nurse and a pioneer in home health care. Hilma actively participated in nursing legislation. She often reminisced about her childhood years in Boulder, Utah, where she could run like a deer and swim her horse across a swollen river. She was afraid of nothing and respected everything. Her house was home to all. She loved to cook and entertain. Her pies, scones, homemade bread and jam were legendary. She made her young children’s lives magical. She will be remembered in every sunset. Hilma is survived by her loving husband, Roberts F. Carver, Ogden; one very devoted daughter, Janet Brower, Ogden; six grateful sons, Jack (Dortha) Carver, Yuma, Arizona; Doug (Glenna) Carver, Thousand Oaks, California; David (Linda) Carver, Eden; Scott (Debbie) Carver, Ogden; Steven (Pat) Carver, Layton; Charles (Andrea) Carver, Fruit Heights; and brothers Dean and Dewey Leavitt, Oregon. She is survived by 34 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one daughter, four brothers, one sister, and one grandchild. Funeral services were held Friday, August 20, 2004, at the 41st Ward LDS Chapel, 3254 Polk Ave, Ogden. Mark was a member and Past Commander for American Legion Post #9 for 50 years continuously. He was also a member of the Roy Elks Lodge. Mark enjoyed boating, fishing, snowmobiling, camping, hunting, and, most of all, spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife, Verla, of Mountain Green; two sons and two daughters, Dave Kingston, and Mike (Tyla) Kingston, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Carolyn Sommers (Mike) Harris, Island Park, Idaho; Janae Peterman (Larry) Kingston, Idaho Falls, Idaho; two stepsons and two stepdaughters, John “Rick” (Kathy) Robinson, Eden; Kevin (Michelle) Robinson, Mountain Green; and Susan (Dave) Eddington, Mountain Green; Debbie Peterson, Denver, Colorado; 23 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers and one sister, Wayne, M. Ray, and Ronald Kingston, and Buelah (Kay) Barker.
