The score was 7 to 7. A sixth grader, Karlee Dickson, stole home on a catchers dropped ball. Sliding flat against the plate, she earned herself a silver dollar-sized strawberry on her hip as the umpire blared, “SAFE!” Pandemonium broke out among the Valley spectators as the players and fans realized the game was over and the Valley Girls had won the game for the championship title for Weber County softball recreation! July 26, 2004 this great team went into a double header evening with an 11 win, 1 loss record in the regular season, mainly because of the awesome efforts of pitcher-catcher team, Reilee and Randee O’ Brian. Students at Valley Elementary are back to school and looking forward to the second Annual Walk-a-thon and Fall Family Festival. This year’s event will be held on September 10. The Walk-a-thon will be the school’s only fundraiser for the year. Each child will receive their “Pledge Packet” on August 30. Students will then obtain pledges from family and community members for their participation in the walk-a-thon. Pledges are for a specific total amount and are not determined by the distance a participant walks. Fund will then be collected by the students’ teachers by September 6. Students can win donated prizes through their participation. The top prize will be a bicycle to the boy and girl who collects the most donated pledges. Lots of other prizes will be awarded also. Wells Fargo Brings New Face to Ogden Valley Jeff Despain comes to the Wells Fargo Ogden Valley office from Kaysville, where he has worked with the company for the past two years. Jeff states that some of his hobbies include golfing, riding 4-wheelers, hunting, fishing and camping; and spending time with his wife and three children. Vern Iverson Makes In 1991, Bob Schindler, Founder and President of Mission ONE, along with his wife Diana, envisioned a ministry that would touch the lives of poor and needy women in Africa and Asia. Who would lead this ministry? For ten years the vision was “on hold.” At the age of 19, Kim Kerr states that she sensed that God was calling her to minister to women in some way. She began to consider service ina mission. Within a period of two years, a call to mission work became clear in her mind and heart, but the form that it would take was still a mystery. Kim began to attend the First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach (FBCWPB), volunteering at the church’s_ Crisis Pregnancy Center. In 1995 she was asked to become the Executive Director of what then became LifeCare Ministries. Accepting this responsibility provided Kim opportunities to be involved with women in the areas of parenting, relationship counseling, abortion counseling, and skill development. In 2000, Kim was able to go on a shortterm mission trip to India. Seeing the oppressed and needy people populating the a Difference rural villages, Kim discovered they were completely ignorant of Christ, which touched her deeply. At the same time, she was greatly blessed by the people’s response and their eagerness for the gospel message she shared. In Kim’s words, “the experience rocked my world.” Later in the year FBCWPB held a confer- ence to which Mission ONE was invited. The concept of training and empowering nationals to minister to their own people resonated with Kim. After discussing her vision with Bob and missionaries from Ethiopia and India, all agreed that there were women in Africa and Asia that had many needs that could be met through mobilizing the women of the church. Bob offered Kim the position of developing and directing this emerging ministry. She agreed to volunteer with Mission ONE for one year, which included a month long sabbatical at Hindustan Bible Institute in Chennai, India. ONE WOMAN cont. on page 11. The school is also hoping to obtain enough funds to help with the purchase of playground equipment for the northwest playground area. Later that day, at 5:30 p.m. all students are invited to return to the school with their parents and families for the Fall Family Festival. There will be food, games galore for all ages, exciting local entertainment, drawings for prizes, a petting zoo, western dancing, and loads of FUN for the whole family.
