It is asserted that this has been the great desire of Gould's Jife, and now that, through the purchase and extension of the Wabash, Wa-bash, which is under course of construction to Baltimore, Bal-timore, that he has reached the Atlantic, the build- ing of the Western Pacific alone remains to complete hia cherished plans. . , The route has practically been laid out between Salt Lake City and San Francisco, and it is asserted that construction will be begun just as soon as men can be put in the field to do it. - , The comments of the Eastern newspapers on this great project is bound to awaken interest 'in the West, and especially in Salt Lake; which will be out of the centers of this great system. The assertion that Gould is behind the Western Pacific has been made repeatedly, but recent events place this beyond be-yond peradventure.
