Show Dr. Frank E. Duddy Gives Report On Westminster College That the Presbyterian Board of Christian Education is taking a tremendous step forward in support sup-port of its affiliated educational institutions is evidenced in a report received by Dr. Frank E. Duddy, Jr., president of Westminster College, Col-lege, that about $1,041,500 will be made available to Presbyterian-related colleges in 1957. This will be an increase of approximately $222,- 000 over last year. This increase alone is almost as large as the total appropriated for 1950, according to Dr. George W. Renneisen, treasurer treasur-er of the Board. Included in the 1957 allocation la a new $90,000 appropriation earmarked ear-marked as a challenge fund to increase in-crease salaries of faculty members mem-bers in the 41 colleges related to the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. Matched with a larger sum made up of moneys raised by the individual indi-vidual colleges, the funds, it is claimed, will go far toward maintaining main-taining the high calibre of instruction instruc-tion in Presbyterian institutions of higher learning. It is pointed out in the report that this challenge fund can result in a $270,000 increase in the salaries of faculty members in Presbyterian colleges. Also included in the 1957 allocation alloca-tion is $67,000 for maintenance of the Presbyterian College Scholarship Scholar-ship program. Each year the Board awards 50 scholarships to outstanding out-standing people entering colleges affiliated with the denomination. A recipient who maintains a good scholastic record can obtain a renewal of his scholarship at the end of the college year. Other portions por-tions of the appropriation will go toward operational expenses of the colleges. |
