Time to Make a "Kissing Cake"! .. - v. :w :ovoi T I J ' Pi V- J .F :s rvv,f FBI For Valentine Week, make up this "sweetheart" of a cake ... , a marvelous, old-fashioned, old-world Torte. Using graham crackers : as an ingredient with whipped cream and flaked coconut as the i topping, this luxurious torte can be made in a matter of minutes. The tender-thin flaked coconut gives a lovely lacy appearance that is sure to bring "kisses for the cook!" Graham Cracker Torte vj& cup sifted flour 1 cup sugar 2 teaspoons double-acting 3 egg yolks, unbeaten . baking powder . cup Baker's Angel Flake 1 package (8 ounces) graham Coconut - crackers, finely crushed 1 teaspoon vanilla A (scant 2 cups) . (. rlf 1 cup milk : cup butter or V:. jji 3 egg whites, stiffly beaten f margarine ' ' 1 cup whipping cream Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder and sift again. Add graham cracker crumbs. Cream butter, add sugar gradually and cream together until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks and beat well. Add coconut, and vanilla and mix thoroughly. Add flour alternately with milk, a small amount at a time, beating after each addition until smooth. Fold in egg whites quickly and thoroughly. Turn into two round 8-inch layer pans, VA. inches deep, which have been lined on bottoms with paper. Bake in moderate oven (375 F.) 30 minutes, or until done. Cool. Split each cake layer. Whip cream and flavor as desired; spread between layers and on top of cake. Sprinkle coconut around outer edge and decorate with tiny red hearts centered with sweetheart rosebuds. j |
