Have you thought how disastrous disastr-ous it could be if the firemen re ceiying the call did not know exactly ex-actly where you lived? Have you thought how disastrous it could be, under certain conditions, if the doctor was to lose valuable I time trying ito find your home? jYou can undoubtedly think of a number ot other advantages to having our homes numbered, but Siias it occured to you that we should number our homes as a defense measure? In case of disaster, dis-aster, we may have to call iu some outside help and we want to he able to tell them exactly where to come. Disaster elsewhere elsewh-ere may brings strangers into our city and a system of numbering our homes would help our peace officers, our city officials, our special civilian defense workers and everyone concerned in keeping keep-ing order in our' city. lit is not necessary for us to wait for someone to put markers at each intersection as our streets have been numbered and most of us are familiar with this numbering num-bering system. U. S. Highway 01 is our Main sitreet and the street running East aud West past the Junior nigh: school it Center street. The numbering of our homes should all start from these streets, North, South, East and West. High school and Junior high students st-udents will find it an interest ing problem to determine the number nu-mber you should put on your home and metal numbers are av-ailabale av-ailabale for a few cents per set. Should you have difficulty In determining de-termining wbait your number Is, ask your Kiwanis neighbor, he will be glad to assist you. Kiwanis Kiwan-is members are leading out by placing numbers on their own homes and the club has as one of its projects to encourage the I numbering of all homes in Smith-field. Odd number because be-cause you live on the West side of the street. Let us assume Ithat the center of your house is 510 feet West of 3rd West street and on .the South side of 2nd North street. 510 divided di-vided by 660 equals .77. plus. Your address would be 378 Wesit 2nd North street. Even number because you live on the South side of ithe street. Let us assume that the center of your house is 71 feet North of 41th North street and on the East side of Main sltreet. 71 divided by 660 equals .17 plus. Your address would be 418' North Main street. Even number because you live on the East side of the street. |
