Peterson, president of the Utah State Agricultural col-lege, col-lege, Saturday announced that fund of $20,000 has been mad available by the state for widespread wide-spread Improvements at the coll lege to assure proper housing and training facilities for trainees assigned as-signed to the college campus under un-der the U. S. navy radio . training program. The fund was transferred Saturday Sat-urday by the state hoard of examiners ex-aminers to the state building commission, com-mission, which will direct the improvement im-provement work, scheduled to begin be-gin Immediately. The first consignment of 300 naval radio trainees from San Dieg5, California, will arrive at the college March 23 to begin training. Housing facilities already have been prepared for the trainees on the main floor of the Smart gym-namium gym-namium under authorization of Governor Herbert B. Maw, president presi-dent Peterson explained. The newly acquired funds will be used to build additions to and improvements in the engineering, trades and industry building; construct con-struct three new radio technology laboratories in the main building, provide extra classrooms on the top floor of the plant industry building, enlarge and improve lavatory la-vatory facilities in the engineering engineer-ing building, install new fire protection pro-tection equipment in training laboratories and expand improvements improve-ments for housing the gymnasium. The college registrar's office will be moved from its present site on the ground floor to enable the trainee staff to use the present registrar's office for administrative administra-tive functions. Cots and beds have been installed install-ed in the gymnasium to care for the first group of trainees. The program so far envisages training of 300 men every three months or 1200 men per year, he said. If more men should be sent, the college ill find other housing facilities, facil-ities, he said. |
