Show 1 Age Limit liaised For Polio Vaccine In Utah The age limit for those eligible to receive Polio vaccine has been extended to include children in the 10 to 14 year old group, according ac-cording to Arvin L. Bellon, who attended the board meeting of the Polio Advisory Committee of the State Board of Health, held in Salt Lake City on May 7. Mr. Bellon, chairman of the Duchesne Du-chesne County1 Infantile Paralysis Chapter, was recently appointed to the Polio Advisory Committee of the State Board of Health to represent Duchesne County. Previously the age limit was up to and including 9 year olds. Thus all those in the age group from 0 to 14 inclusive and expectant mothers are now included in the priority group. Mr. Bellon also noted that Duchesne Du-chesne County is lagging in the use of the vaccine available to them and recently over 25 of that available had not been used. He pointed out that Utah is extremely ex-tremely fortunate for the excellent manner in which the State Board of Health and physicians of the state have adopted and carried out the Salk Vaccine program. Utah is one of the few states in which the vaccine is obtained 100 per cent through the State Board of Health through Federal Grants and certainly all of those within the eligible age group should avail themselves of the opportunity opportun-ity to obtain the vaccine while it is available free of charge. Polio Season Seen "The polio season will soon be (Continued on Back Page) I POLIO VACCINE .... (Continued from Page One) upon us and with all indications pointing to ample vaccine in the next few weeks and months, every child in the priority age group and every expectant mother! should have at least one shot! before we enter the danger period. If we continue to lag in the use of the vaccine available, we will be in danger of losing it to other areas where there is demand for it," Mr. Bellon continued. The committee also voted to make all vaccine received available avail-able to anyone in the priority group for either first or second shots and not to hold vaccine for second shots for those who receive re-ceive their first. Thus those receiving re-ceiving first shots now will have to rely on future allotments for their second shot. It was felt that this would avail more of the opportunity op-portunity for at least one shot before the polio season and that there would be vaccine available in time for their second shot. Third shots are not available at this time. Also attending the meeting with Mr. Bellon were Mrs. Hyrum Jensen Jen-sen and Mrs. Neal Schaefermeyer of Roosevelt. |
