Bellon as postmaster post-master in the Roosevelt post office, of-fice, by President Harry S. Truman. Tru-man. Devoe Lambert Tuesday night was elected commander of the Roosevelt American Legion post, succeeding Dale Ashby. Others elected to serve with Commander Lambert were Kirk Benson, first vice-commander; Jewel Kolb, second sec-ond vice-commander; Kenneth Ay-cock, Ay-cock, adjutant and finance officer; Ted Olpin, chaplain; Jack Birchell, historian; and Mr. Ashby ser-geant-at-arms. An activity that was carried on nearly 12 years ago was revived re-vived this year by the Roosevelt High School Future Farmers of America chapter when 165 future farmers, their parents and guests assembled at the high school May 2 in a vocational. F F A banquet. The program was directed by Kenneth Zirker, agricultural instructor. in-structor. The dinner meeting was presided over by Keith Lemon as master of ceremonies. Paul Murphy Mur-phy delivered the main address of the evening. Some awards were presented by Franklin Spencer, chapter president. Mrs. Wm. Sutteer of Fort Duchesne Du-chesne was elected president of the American Legion Auxiliary Basin Unit 64, at a meeting held Tuesday evening in the Legion barracks. 10 YEARS AGO With nine schools competing in the annual Regional 5 track and field meet held at Price' May 3, the Roosevelt high school track team captured third place. Carbon, with a score of 83 placed first and Uintah High clinched second spot with 64 points. Republicans from 7 precincts in Duchesne Count met at the GOP county convention at Duchesne Saturday, May, 4, and elected George Stewart, Roosevelt attorney, attor-ney, their chairman for the ensuing ensu-ing year. Fern Moffat, incumbent chairwoman was re-elected and a new secretary-treasurer, Ronald Page, was named. Grace Colton, daughter of Mr and Mrs. B. O. Colton and Audrey Hall, daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Heber T. Hall, were hostesses at a joint birthday party on Wednesday Wed-nesday evening at the Colton residence res-idence One of the attractive social events of the week was the informal in-formal tea at the' home of Mrs. H. P. Edwards Thursday evening, May 2, in honor of Mrs. Lynn' Labrum, the former Miriam Long. Mrs. Lester Mullins, Mrs. Ned Bellon, Mrs. Jack Hoover, Mrs. Steve Bellon, Mrs. L. C. Labrum, Mrs. J. J. Cook and' Miss Beth Broden acted as hostesses. 20 YEARS AGO Thursday, May 14th, has been set aside as senior play day and graduating students from the three county high schools including Duchesne, Du-chesne, Roosevelt and Altamont High Schools will gather at the Altamont campus in Mt. Emmons for a day of fun and frolic. The forenoon will be spent in ames of all kinds and in the afternoon students of the three schools will engage in an old-fashioned old-fashioned track meet, in which both boys and girls will participate. In the evening the visiting students stu-dents will be guests of, the Altamont Alta-mont High School at a dance to be held in the gymnasium. Joseph Zorko returned to Myton last week after spending the last six months in California, where he attended school. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Jordan and small daughter, Joyce, left Wednesday Wed-nesday for Springfield, Missouri, where they will visit for several days with Mr. Jordan's mother, Mrs. E. D. Jordan. |
