Show Pulse OfThe Public Editor, Standard: A great deal of emotional talk, contention and near malice has been stirred up among the people of Duchesne county because of a plan suggested by a few citizens of Roosevelt to move the county seat from Duchesne. They proposed that the seat of county government be taken to, Vernal, but as we understand it, Vernal does not want us. The citizens of Duchesne county are staggering under a very heavy taxation, and with the building of the Union High school at Roosevelt the burden will, without a doubt, become heavier and heavier. Why add to an already overtaxed over-taxed citizenry the expense of moving the county seat? No person can doubt that this would mean a very great expense. ex-pense. Why try to destroy a town in our county when we need all the towns we have? The people of Duchesne have never tried to take, by fair means or foul, the industries, schools or businesses that help to make the other towns in the county prosperous. We are pleased and happy that Tabiona has a fine high school; that the Salt Lake Pipe Line company put a pumping station at Hanna. We backed these projects and are justly proud of the results. We are happy that Altamont has the REA headquarters, and will continue to support the people of that community, and all other towns and communities in their efforts to build up their schools, industries and businesses. We want Myton to have her seed industry and will support her citizens in their projects to build a bigger and better town. We are not jealous of the prosperity of other towns in the county, and have never tried In any manner to take or steal the businesses and projects they have developed. We wholeheartedly supported the erection of the Roosevelt hospital, and at this time we do not even have a county health nurse in the west end of the county. We did not fight the building of the Union High school. True, we in Duchesne did not vote in favor of the bond issue for the reason that we felt the citizens of the county coun-ty could not stand the additional tax burden. We do not want to destroy any part of our county. We want to help build up all of our communities, and thus help each other. We feel that Duchesne is entitled to the county seat. It is near the center of the county, and is established here, Any change would mean the spend- ing of the taxpayers hard earned money. Let's not tax our citizens out of existence. Let us be economical, and try to ease the tax burden so that people will want to locate in our county instead of leaving to get from under the heavy taxes. If some worthy citizens of Roosevelt wish to put Duchesne county out of existence, it would seem that the vastus localities should have, some say as to who they shall be annexed by. If we are going to kill the county coun-ty let's make a good job of it, and butcher it up well. Cut off a slice for Wasatch county on the west, and a slice for Carbon county on the south so that, our neighboring counties will not feel slighted. But frankly we see no need for asking anyone to take us in. t N let's leav7Tr ve and all work!
