Show California Official Confirms Gusher Oil Strike; Peak Production 20 Barrels Daily Caution Urged In Appraising Latest Discovery The recovery of oil at California Cal-ifornia Oil Co.'s Gusher well was confirmed Tuesday by R. D. White, division exploration manager, Denver, who said the crew had swabbed 20 barrels of oil an hour last week from the well. At 20 barrels an hour, the daily rate of production would be 480 barrels. However, Mr. White said testing test-ing has not been completed and that swabbing this week had dropped to three barrels an hour, after more acid had been poured down the hole. Initial production so far contrasts con-trasts sharply with that of the Carter Oil Co.'s Ute Tribal No. 1 last summer, which had an initial flow of 1,633 barrels of oil per day. There have been rumors, though? that the Gusher well may eventually surpass the Ute Tribal as a producer. The oil from both wells is about the same i n content, 30 - gravity crude with a high pour point and paraffin base. As the oil is not flowing from the hole, but must be bailed out, indications are the well will be a pumper. i i 1 Mr. White was cautious about the new oil discovery. He said the well could play out during testing, as did the Ruth Nelson, between Roosevelt and Vernal, two years ago. There has been considerable local speculation during past weeks in regard to the well. Rumors on two occasions swept the town that oil had been struck, before hopes were ac tually realized last week. At that time it was known an oil well had been brought in at Gusher, but the size of it, even to the crew, remained a mystery. mys-tery. And even now the status of the well as a producer is uncertain. un-certain. f i 1 The Ute Tribal No. 2 crew, as of May 23, was drilling through shale at 6,470 feet. The well site is ' located in NW SE, Sec. 21-1S-1E. Drillers at the Bluebell (Monarch) (Mon-arch) well, SW NE, Sec 6-1S-2W, as of the same date,, were down in shale to 6,451 feet. |
