Show City Proceeds Vith Plans To Drill Test Well Roosevelt city is going ahead with plans to drill a test well at Leeton, in the. southeast corner cor-ner of the Johnny Hall farm, 200 yards west of the R.E.A. plant, it was brought out at city council meeting Monday. A 12-inch well for water will be drilled as soon as possible to a probable depth of 60 to 65 feet. A drilling contract has been let to Jack Zimmerman. If water in sufficient quantity and quality is found at Leeton, an additional well will be drilled and water pumped to a reservoir reser-voir near Roosevelt. Steve Bel-Ion, Bel-Ion, chairman of the city water committee, said Tuesday that so far the city has had no difficulty diffi-culty in obtaining right-of-ways for pipe-lines from the wells. The old problems of irrigation irriga-tion waters flooding the "Flats" was again discussed. Earlier this week uncontrolled waste water wa-ter in the Flats flooded two blocks of streets and a quarter-mile quarter-mile stretch of Highway 40. And Mayor Homer P. Edwards reported re-ported Tuesday that the culvert by Roosevelt Flour mill had been crushed by heavy trucks, with the result that water is now flooding the area. i 1 1 The council, on motion by Councilman Bellon, seconded by Councilman Bennie Schmiett, allocated al-located $2,000 for the purchase of gravel, to be used on city streets. Roy Hall was appoint-er appoint-er road supervisor and is to be responsible for all city road equipment. Marshal Carl Hacking told the council that the oil stove in the city jail is dangerous 'and should be removed. A drunk, he said, could cause an explosion and set the entire jail jan fire. He also recommended a utility room to eliminate present inadequate in-adequate heating and bathroom facilities, and the construction of two private cells, for feminine fem-inine and juvenile offenders. The council authorized Councilman Coun-cilman Schmiett, chairman of the recreation committee, to appoint ap-point Ren Fenn to supervise the care of the softball field this summer. Mr. Fenn will also sell season softball admission cards. Treasurer DeVoe Lambert announced an-nounced his resignation would be forwarded to Mayor Edwards within a matter of days, He said he was resigning his position in order to seek permanent employment em-ployment in another field. |
