Show I AFFAIRS OF THE CITY HOW THE OLD CITY HALL WILL BE APPORTIONED I The Police jiiul Fire Departments I S 1 AVIU Divide it Up Between Them Tie City Recorder and the Health Department Have Joined in the Hegira to the New Building While no official action has yet been taken it has practically been decided by the board of police and fire commissioners commission-ers that the police department will be given the entire ground floor of the old city hal with the exception of one office for the use of the board and the westside I west-side of the second floor the fire department depart-ment to be given the two east side rooms those formerly used by the city council and mayor I Is more than likely like-ly that some action will be taken today by the board looking to the settlement of the apportionment matter As at present arranged the police court chambers will be located in the large northwest corner room formerly occupied by the city engineer with Chief Pratts office transformed into a private office for the justice while the present court quarters are to be fitted up as a reading and lounging room for the members of the police department The boys will I also have the room directly south while the board is to have the present desk sergeants quarters On the other side of the building the chief will be located In the office originally used by the auditor audi-tor and the detectives desk sergeants and Captain Donovan will have desks in the large front room with the vault reserved re-served for the use of the desk men That room now occupied by Captain Donovan Don-ovan is to be turned into sleeping apartments apart-ments for the men in case they are held at the hal for any special duty Chief Devine will occupy the old council cham berami the mayors office He will probably prob-ably remove his family into the new quarters The entire building i to be renovated and the offices repainted and repaired Inasmuch as many of the officers cers removed all of their desks and other furniture from the building although al-though they did not in many cases need them in the new structure it maybe may-be necessary to make some purchases in the general furnishing I |
